Right, just had my U.S. embassy compliant photos taken (20 ###### quid for 4!!!!!!!!!!!) and have attached the required number to my packet 3.

Now then, just two more things I need to know before I pop it in the post:

1) In section 29 of the DS-156, it asks you to state your prior visits to the U.S. If you have quite a few visits (as most of us do) then you take up a fair bit of space, but the DS-156 automatically generates a "continuation page" with all the relevan trips listed when you print it off. Section 25 of the DS-230 form requests the same information, but does not automatically generate the continuation page in the way DS-156 does. As such, an improvised continuation sheet will be required. Will a standard blank word document suffice as a template? Or is there a procedure here?

2) ####### is an 'A' number??????? I know from reading various posts on here that it doesn't apply to trips using the VWP, but I have travelled on an F1 before. Is the 'A' number the long number in the top right hand corner? Because it's refered to as a 'control number' on the visa.

Any ideas?

The DS-230 is for Immigration Applications, and if you are going for the K-1 Fiance application, you only need the DS-156(K).

This is from the Embassy checklist in Kiev.

2. DS-230 Part I and II for immigrant visa applicants.

3. DS-156, DS-156K for the fiancée visa applicants

Where does it ask about the A number? I cannot find it on my DS-156 form

The London embassy does ask for form DS-230 Part I. Damien, I would imagine that a simple printed page in word would be quite sufficient! That is what I did for another form and it was accepted.

I have only used the VWP in the past so I had no A-number to write down. It does say 'if known' so I imagine it's not too essential.

Hi Damian

I am doing a word document for my visits to the USA. And there is not enough room on the DS156 for all of my dates, so I am just putting the month and year of my visits. I hope this will satisfy them.

Why did your photos cost so much? what's wrong with the passport photo booth type ones for c. GBP4? That was all I was planning to use.

I think an A number is something to do with being an alien, I don't think we get them until we get over there with our green cards (but am not sure). I remember A numbers on the I129F form and I didn't have one then.

The ones you'll get from a regular passport booth are UK-sized, and you'll need US-sized passport photos (iirc 2 inches x 2 inches) for the interview.

Scarlett

Rachael is correct - the photos must be U.S. visa compliant, so standard British passport photos will not be accepted. You should have had a list of suitable photographers sent to you with packet 3 (I used Happy Snaps, becuase they've got branches everywhere).
