I've a question too, how long can you stay outside on AP?

Until it expires. But don't miss your AOS interview. And don't do things such that the overall appearance of the situation is that you have not made the USA your place or primary residence.

Ok I've written my separate piece of paper and just said I am applying for advance parole in order to visit family and friends whilst my AOS is pending.

That should do it I guess!
