Several sources at the RNC told FOX News that in the last 36 hours, senior McCain advisers and aides have told RNC officials that McCain "got the message" last week that choosing a running mate who supports abortion rights would not be helpful.

GOP pundits had been vocal in urging the presumptive presidential nominee not to pick a running mate who supports abortion rights.

...

The McCain campaign has been calling key state Republican officials around the country in recent days to weigh the consequences of picking a candidate who backs abortion rights.

...

"If McCain picks a pro-abortionist, he will forfeit his moral authority and political advantage on the issue and might very well be conceding the election to Obama," [conservative commentator David] Limbaugh wrote.

How sloppy can you get, kneeling for moral authority doesn't even make any sense, let alone have some humourous conotation.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Just out of interest, what is it with the Americans and the abortion issue? Why is it part of the political platform? I dont think I understand why it's so significant and constantly hangs over the elections.

I would say he is damned if he doesn't. The battle is about the center, not the far right.

Exactly. Although if he chooses Romney, he's choosing a running mate who has two positions on it...or perhaps three. :jest:

Moot, due to the "unwritten rule" of choosing a less-impressive VP-candidate (Romney isn't) of the same party (ruled out Lieberman); IMO, GOP's VP-candidate will be....Arlen Spectre!

because abortion and avoiding gays to get married is more important than a solid economic platform or something more benecifial for the country.... they'd rather stop 'adam and steve' from getting married.. than a real issue

To be fair, it's not all Republicans who are such narrow minded ideologues. They're not even in the majority of the GOP anymore. It's just a sect of Republicans whose rigid ideological views won't tolerate any position that isn't lock and step with theirs. Limbaugh no longer has the political clout of the GOP that he once had back in the 90's. McCain ought to tell him to go overdose himself on oxycontin.
