Just called the DOS for my weekly update. Got a very nice lady, but all she could tell me was that I was still in AP, and she implied that it was at the embassy level. According to the email the embassy sent I'm in mandatory AP, ie name checks, and when I asked the lady, she refused to confirm or deny whether it was name checks or the 'other' AP. The only good thing she was able to tell me was that the last date-stamp was 'end of March', not even a specific date :(

As Queeny mentioned in her thread, I do think that we should have some idea, if not the precise details, of why we're in AP, instead of being in limbo like this. I think every country has a duty and responsibilty to take immigration seriously, whether it's the validity of a marriage, possible abuse, or of course security...but please, let me know why my fellow citizens at the same embassy get their passport back the next day, and I'm still waiting six weeks later!!

yeah i know the feeling, its not fair for them to leave us just hanging and not telling us anything not to mention its also rude, we are so sick of this long waiting waiting waiting, i have contacted with my congressman and my senator that dont really help, you just get the same ole standard email from them, its quite depressing at times and sooooo stressful, i wish they would at least consider peoples feelings here and change the way they handle the cases. My husband had a heart attack a couple weeks ago and i know it is directly related to the stress of this waiting without knowing anything and my husband is not an older man that this should happen to him, this visa process is hard on people and their health as well and i wish the embassy people would take this under consideration and communicate with us more. I'm really sorry to hear that, Pat, I hope he's well on the road to recovery now. Praying that we all hear good news soon...

Pat - Sorry about your husband I hope he makes a speedy recovery and that all this stress will be lifted soon.

Treehugger - Keep in mind AP can mean nothing it is just a term that is used loosely after an interview and before the Visa is issued it is their way of getting out of just saying it is sitting in a stack of papers waiting waiting on us to get to it. A few years ago DOS used to tell people exactly what stage and what was going on with the case and it got them into trouble thus we have the word AP it covers everything. That is why older employees of DOS will give more info than a new employee the newbie will just say AP and that will be the end of the conversation. If the info DOS gave you is correct your AP probably ended the end of March after AP it usually takes about 2 weeks to hear something if indeed the info she sid is correct. Good Luck who will be the first to get the first visa in April Good luck all

Any ideas about this assumption? My husband and I both "think" the reason we are BACK in AP is because he sent in his Passport. I have read some posts on these forums about the Embassy doing additional Processing after receiving the Passport if they didn't originally have it. When my husband called them the day before our daughter was born, they told him his AP was over and review was over and that he should hear something within 8-10 days. After about 6-7 days he called back and they told him it was in AP. He said they were mistaken and explained it, so they said "Oh, well, they are still working on it." Now, he called a week and a half ago and they said it is BACK in AP. So he asked why and they said "It is normal, it happens, it just means the officer wasn't ready to issue the visa yet and it needs additional processing. We will call you when processing is finished." when I had called DOS, they had even confirmed to me that AP was finished a few weeks ago, and that it was just in "processing" not Administrative Processing. But now when I call, they say "All it says is that his case is in AP". But, some of those women at DOS dont know how to click the different windows and check. I ask about updates, and occasionally I get people who tell me there have been no updates since his interview in November. But, sometimes, they tell me that it was updated last week or so.

I agree that they should at least tell us what sort of processing is being done since it is all of our personal info they are working with. We should have enough rights over our own paperwork since we paid them a lot of money for what they are doing. Its obvious that we cant expect them to tell us whether it is approved or not, but at least give us some insight. This is peoples' futures. Not just the immigrants. The petitioners and their children too. Its not so easy to just pack up your life in your own country and move overseas if the visa doesn't get approved. I lived in Pakistan for over a year... its not the lifestyle for me.. but I do what I have to in order to be with my husband. But, now, its about time he gets here. His daughter is 3 weeks old, almost... and he has never held her, kissed her, fed her... anything. He is missing every second of her tiny life. And yet, there are people who walk into the Embassy, have their interview even if their spouse isn't present (like I was), and walk out with the knowledge that they get their visa with no AP in just about 3 days. Its just kinda hypocritical. Everyone, regardless of whatever their case is should have to go through all the same process whether or not the checks apply to them.. it would be more fair.

I agree with you and I feel the same. My fiance was put in AP right after he submitted his passport. This is so frustrating. Now the consulate is not responding to my emails. :(

As far as updates I get the same response. Sometimes they tell me recent dates and sometimes they told me the last update was February 10.

I'm sorry to hear that you are in the same boat, Starlight. How long ago did he submit it? I am debating the idea of going back to Pakistan with the baby. My husband hasn't seen her yet and she is 3 weeks old. So, by the time I would get her passport and visa and such... she would be about a month and a half to two months. I want to be able to take her to see her father if he is not able to come here quickly. anyhow. Just thought I'd ask you when your fiance submitted his passport, and how long it has been since. take care and good luck for a speedy AP for you.

I called the DOS on Monday, but I waited until Tuesday to email the embassy as we have a four day weekend for Easter here in the UK. To their credit, the embassy replied within 30 min  but they just confirmed I was in 'additional AP, which is mandatory and cannot be waived....Please be assured that as soon as the review is complete, you will be contacted'.

Who knows, you could still be right, but they're not encouraging are they? At least they replied quickly though, especially as their acknowledgement emails state that status checks for anything less than 90 days will not be answered. You just never know what to expect when dealing with officialdom anywhere!

It's terrible isn't it! And you don't fit the 'profile' for AP, so it's doubly terrible for you. The embassy tells me that it's in Washington and as soon as Washington responds they'll issue the visa. 'Washington' says it's not with the USCIS or the NVC, but at another agency that doesn't give updates (FBI? CIA?) who knows! Usually we get a few approvals by now - wonder what's happening this month?!

He submitted it on February 23, 2010, and got the passport back on March 8, 2010. So, now its officially a month since we are in this thing called AP :(. The wait is killing me. I have cut down my numerous calls to DOS and I called the consulate yesterday myself. I got the usually still pending AP. Is there really a light at this end of the tunnel called AP? I am really frustrated.

They even stopped emailing me. Alot of people say when they stop emailing is because it could be something good. That they are working on your case. Wishful thinking guys. But, I hope all of you waiting reunite with their SO's soon.

On the Ukraine Embassy web site it states the more emails we have to respond to the less time we have to work on cases. I only emailed them every three months and I got the same generic apology letter everytime until they decided to send the case back to USCIS then they just stated that fact and I should direct any further questions to USCIS. However I did learn the case was sent back from DOS before the Embassy emailed me. Im not sure if they would have if I had not asked them. FYI a lady at DOS told me that the first few months call once a month then call 2 times a month and after 7 months every week. I was by one lady call next week and you will hear good news so I guess she saw that the security checks were completed. I called back the next week and they told me to call everyday then after about a week they said the cases was being sent back and to get in touch with my senator so I know if they have news they will share it but I found late in the afternoon was the time when the nicest ladies were working call then you will get more info
