It seems that more and more embassies are doing this, saying "Congrats, you are approved" and then yanking the approval away...it is unacceptable, but there is nothing we can do except wait and wait and wait...

Visa Journey completed, but we are still here to provide support! :)

It sure can be a roller coaster ride! I just call the DOS every few days to check status and of course get the same old "in progress." I assume a couple possible changes could be "case sent back to U.S." or "case approved" or ???? Not sure what I could hear...

Well, I don't know how much of this I should believe, but I spoke to a nice DOS rep a few days ago (I call everyday as well, hoping to hear something new) and she told me that they can't see anything on their screens about Admin Processing until some decision is made on the case, such as visa issued, or case sent back to US. She said that they can't see what goes on during the actual AP/AR process. So I don't get how people find out whether security checks have been completed or other details????

It all depends on who you talk too as to what info they give you. Call at different times of the day, document who you talk to so you know when to prod a bit further if one seems to give out a bit more info. Personally, there are two women that I like - Jessica and another, can't remember her name right off, haven't talked with her in a long while. I typically try to play dumb like I'm clueless about the process.

Yep- that is true. Some people are more forthcoming than others, when I call the DOS. I have been told by a few that they cannot see any specific details of the AP- just that it is in progress- this I tend to believe. I had my Congressman send an inquiry (only to get the same "in progress" response I get), and sometimes a nice person at the DOS will acknowledge that, while others won't share that... I believe they can only see notes put in by the specific embassy, and I don't think the embassies share much in the line details, regarding the actual AP progress into that DOS database.... just my guess....

Is there a knock-on-effect for not calling DOS often? We decided to just leave them to take their time with this frustrating process, just something less to worry about plus my fiancee is in final year of her Pharmacy program and she definitely doesn't need this stress but I wonder what your thoughts are on this.

There is no effect on the actual AP process itself whether one calls or does not all DOS often. DOS simply tells you what is going on, they may log your calls, but that is just for statistical purposes. It doesn't have any effect on the process itself. They will take however long they are going to take, regardless of someone calling in to check status or not. But I would suggest calling them at least once every two weeks, just so they know you are concerned (although I don't think it really matters to them).

I called EVERY single day including a few hours after the interview. I also emailed the embassy a couple of times a week. My philosophy, "The squeaky wheel gets the oil." I think especially with the embassy, since they have to print and put emails into the file, it kept my file on top. AND when I gave them two options for a second interview when I would be present they took one. I won't say it will work for everyone, but that's how things worked for me.

When you call ask if they can see any updates on your case. When you ask that they know you know that they can see if the embassy has made any changes/documenting on your case. I once called and the DOS could see that the embassy ahd just sent me an email, which they had. When my husband 2nd interview appointment was rescheduled they coudl see the entry that just happend.

They can't tell you details of the AP, but everytime the embassy works on yoru case they can see the entry.
