Senators and congressman can't actually do much - they contact the DoS/embassy in exactly the same way we do, and they get exactly the same answers we do. The only difference is that they can't be ignored the way we can, and if a case is lying on someone's desk it forces them to at least go pick it up. Additionally, some think that by a senator/congressperson contacting the DoS they might be a little more pro-active in processing the case, but who knows.

My husband's congressman contacted the DoS twice, and his senator's office lost the case file twice. In fact, they still haven't contacted the DoS yet, even though it's been six weeks since my husband first got in touch with them. :bonk: :bonk:

Well, I haven't found any posts when a senator/congressman has been helpful during AP. But I was wondering as to why she felt they were helpful in her case. I've also contacted my congressman / senator for the AP. 4 weeks with congressman and no reply and 1 week w senator and no reply.

But, I've ready many posts when congressman was helpful during the initially USCIS petition at VSC or CSC. My petition went over the 5 month mark. My congressman contacted them on Tuesday and my petition was approved on Thursday. So, I do agree that a congressman office can help at the USCIS level (based on my own personal experience.)

I had contacted my congressmans office just after I filed the petition to get things rolling with them as I knew going into this there could be some possible issues and it proved to be a very wise move!!!

I'm glad they were able to help you :)

Do you think that after your fiance arrives in the US and you get married and he applies for his green card then (sorry, I'm not sure about the K1 process post-visa) that he'll also go through AP again? I know of people who were in the US as students and then workers, and then when they applied for their green card they endured several months of background checks etc.

So, I do agree that a congressman office can help at the USCIS level (based on my own personal experience.)

I'm gald they were able to help you too :) How I wish they could help at this stage too!!

Called DOS today... was a total waste of time... not to mention I feel even more horrible.. the foreign Lady that I could barely understand due to her thick accent told me that we are under AP bla bla bla and that I needed to pray.. that in most cases it is 3 months up to a year before you come off of AP... uuuuuuugh what a f'ing wonderful MOnday... can you believe that she told me to pray... isnt that like against some type of government law... like I know down here in the south they wont let the kids pray in school and they have taken the 10 commandments out of the court houses... so .... uuuugh... I am just aggervated... I will and do pray... just dont need some government offical to mock me and tell me to pray...

I dont think that I will call DOS again.. not to mention they are a day behind the embassy anyways.. So... I will just continue my weekly call to the embassy... I have asked my Husband to make a monthly trip to the embassy just to inquire... he will be starting this next month.. I mean really what else can we do... I bought the Rosetta Stone Hindi version.. I havent told my Husband... figure I can bide my time and suprise him with some Hindi.. The only Hindi he teaches me is words that are only funny for him to hear me say

Agreed on the rep. telling you to pray. And, very sweet/thoughtful idea on learning the lang. Good luck!! I used to be fluent in Hindi--forgot it when we moved to the U.S. I've been considering buying the Rosetta Stone in Hindi as well to surprise my fiance. He speaks Urdu which is similiar to Hindi. Let me know how you like the Rosetta Stone. : )

Well, at least you're prepared for it mentally, and next time you'll go through it together. Much, much better than being thousands of miles apart!!

Cute! At least something to keep you busy. : )

Exactly! If we were together and going through AP--I would totally be fine. Even if my flight time was 5 to 6 hrs i'd be fine. I would go visit often. But it takes freakin 26hours to get there. : ( And, we can't make any plans re: our life b/c of AP. He is scheduled to start a job in another state in Jan. And, I don't have a job lined up yet---so we wanted to get the AOS over with while we were in my current State and to go find housing at this other state. UGH!!! I just get so depressed when I think about it. :(

I'm sorry to hear that :( Don't have anything to add apart from wishing you luck in your next step

PS I think there's a thread pinned in the MENA forum regarding K1 petitions that are denied and returned to the US, have you gone through that?

PPS Here it is:

Snap! If it's any comfort, I know exactly what you mean. The only difference is that it's only an 11 hour flight between our two cities, and that's long enough!!

So close, yet so far!! As the embassy kept my passport, it's been my husband visiting me here - it's hard to see him return but I keep hoping that the next time we see one another it'll be in the US :)
