Hello everyone!

My husband is a 10 year GC holder and we would like to go back to our country to "try out" if we want to live there.

Here are the question.

What process do we need to start?

What is the maximum time he can be out of the country without loosing his privileges?

How long does it take to get an approval?

Do we need to have a reason to justify request?

Is their a chance that if and when he returns they will not allow him in?

Thanks

A 10 yr GC holder? really? according to your timeline you are not yet there....

nothing to do before hand or to start with

the timeframe is about a year (some say 6 mos.) before re-entry permit is needed

What about citizenship? If you can wait then there is no issue with all this....

YMMV

We intend to wait until he gets his 10 year GC.

Can you please answer the rest of the questions? Which is the process that I would need to do?

Thanks

ML

as to the rest..

i don't know how long, but an I-131 is usually adjudicated in 60-90 days... (same form for advance parole as the re-entry permit)

to the best of my knowledge, no justification needed

if out for a long time and no re-entry permit I suppose there is always a big chance of refused entry, however, the purpose of the re-entry permit is to allow you to re-enter, so I presume if it is approved the chances of refusal are significantly less...

YMMV
