Reschedule of Initial Interview for AOS (I-797C)

Hello all,

I have gone through several hours of reading through different forums on this website. This is my situation

Feb 14th, 08 - They received all the documents for adjustment of status (I-485)

April, 08 - They needed more documents (initial evidence) - sent in and that was fine good.gif

July, 08 - Received EAD and Advance Parole. Sweet - very excited as I could go back home. good.gif

Aug 18th, 08 - Received the I-797C to appear for Initial Interview on Oct 2 unsure.gif

Problem. I just bought tickets to go home (have not been back in 5 years). I am still torn whether to try to reschedule the interview or pay tons of money to change my flight dates. I am horrified reading all the posts here that mention the problems attached with rescheduling. Has anyone done any rescheduling recently and has the process gotten any better. Seems like getting confirmation while on the phone seems the most reliable method?

If I do reschedule, I am planning to have my spouse go to the Service Center at St. Albans on the supposed day of interview(Aug 18th), regardless of whether or not we receive the cancellation document. She can then explain that I am out of the country and maybe that will help?

Another quick question. At the time of filing and as of now we are living in Vermont, but in a weeks time and at the time of the interview we will be living in Massachussets hence I am thinking we are required to do a change of address. Does that mean I have to go to a service center in Mass or do I still go to the one at St. Albans? Anyone have any experience with such a case?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
