I-864 vs. I-134: which do i need re: financial sponsorship?

hi!

i'm applying for my fiance to come to the US - we currently have our I-129 petition in, and are waiting for that part to process.

meanwhile, i've been looking into what he will need for his k-1 visa application process at the consulate. and one thing i'm not sure about is financial sponsorship. i don't have enough money to sponsor him, so my parents will be co-sponsoring. but do they need to fill out i-864 or i-134? and do i, as the petitioner/co-sponsor, need to fill out i-134 or i-864? or both? or neither?

the consulate's info says i-134, but it doesn't mention co-sponsorship. other sites say both i and my parents have to fill out i-864. so which is it?

You should wait until you are approved and your fiance eceives packet 3. In packet 3 it will clearly tell you which you should use.

You can also go to your fiances embassy website, some of them have the forms posted there.

In either case, the forms are very similar, so you can print them out and have a look at them to get an idea of what is asked for.

I-134 is usually required for K1 and I-864 for AOS. Check with the Embassy if you are uncertain

They are not allowed to require the I-864 for a K1.

The I-134 is what you will need. The consulate may also require additional documentation such as tax records and bank statements. These additional requirements vary by consulate.
