Salaam all,

Just running into a bit of a pickle...

Have any of you who received a temporary work stamp from POE and found work on the books? And if so, how did you explain the 3-month work authorization to your potential employer? How did you explain that it is valid only for three months, but you are hoping to get working papers in the interim, without sounding shady?

Not many people know about K1 visas, and when i find myself explaining my husband's visa status, i feel like i might be doing more harm than good!

Any insight?

Thanks,

hz

Well, that's the thing. You can't tell a future employer that you can work for three months with the stamp and then work using the EAD because the EAD may take longer to be approved than the three months. In fact, it will most likely take longer than what the EAD stamp is good for. That's why it's almost useless to even try to look for work without the actual EAD card in hand.

It is a pickle... that's for sure...

Has anyone had any luck or experience finding work where someone would take you on "conditionally" with the idea the EAD would come in time? Or hired and then re-hired type of thing?

How did it work out?

I'm just waiting for my SSN and then I will have about 6 weeks where i'll be able to work before my temp work stamp runs out. I'm going to the temp agencies to get a couple of weeks work, and from what i've researched it seems the only viable option.

25th September - Check cashed $1010.00 (OUCH!!)

29th September - Received NOA's for AOS/EAD/AP

17th October - Biometrics (Tampa Office)

17th October - AOS/EAD Touched

20th October - AOS Touched

21st October - AOS Touched

So... no takers?

Nobody on all of VJ got any work with their temporary EAD stamp and ssn?

Wadi got a job at a restuarant with just the temp EAD and SSN.

In all honesty though, I think it's pretty tough, and it might be more trouble than it's worth.

Okay, well that's at least something!

i realize it might seem silly to others, but i think in our case, just peace of mind and self-esteem is what's driving my habeeb to get a job. Any old job really... even if just for 2 months...

Thanks for sharing,

My fiance and I have just started talking about this. We're at the beginning of K1 and we've decided that he can tutor for a bit: French, math, science or take classes at a junior college. Going to a temp agency is a great idea.

well - I got the stamp, applied for AOS 12 days after I arrived and got EAD after around 2 months.

if you are determind to work and you need the money - then go for it. it might work out, it might not.

it did work out for me and and it was important for me to be able to work right away.

but that's just priorities.

i already lived here for over a year and went to school and worked, had my SSN and bank account and stuff, that helped.

but please don't say that its impossible and worthless to get the stamp. because its not.
