Hi,

I'm new to VJ. My husband and I were recently married in Egypt and we are working on his K-3 visa. Since we were just married in June, we dont have any joint ownership; a lease of a common residence; or co-mingling of financial resources. Im wondering how many sworn affidavits we need and what other documention could be used?

Lost and confussed in paperwork,

Hollykay

Most will simply use the marriage certificate along with "keeping in touch" evidence

YMMV

I only sent a copy of our marriage certificate with two affidavits from my mom and sister and our I-130 was approved without any issues.

We didnt send any extra ####### (photos, affidavits, etc etc) with the petition. Marriage certificate (copy) and original translation only along with the rest of the stuff exactly as listed on the petition instructions (identity, G325's, etc). The "proof of marriage" check was 1. at the embassy interview (consisting of a couple of quick questions as to when we met / how long have we known each other even though she had all those phone records and things 2. at the AOS interview "can you tell me each other's birthday?" and "can I see your wedding photo album please?" At that time we had to give the interviewer:

Joint credit cards (he made copies) lol

Joint health insurance

Joint life insurance

Joint bank account statements

Joint auto insurance

Wedding photos

Extra photo album with mixed family photos, me with hers and her with mine

We didnt have anything joint until 3 months after my wife arrived in the States and she got her SS card (after EAD card approval) Exception was benefits enrollment at my work because I had only 90 days after our wedding date (change of circumstance? to do that.

Our case was painless. We didnt get any RFE's, questions, excessive delays, or anything else, other than her fingerprints were twice rejected and we had to get a local police certificate from the city here (cost $3)

Hope that helps

i don't get it.

What is keeping in touch evidence? Will online chats count?

Different for everyone... chats, skype logs, e-mails, phone records, etc....

YMMV

You can use 2 affidavits, bank statements or transactions even phone bills also.

Or skip the affidavits and bank statements and just use phone bills. The I-130 is quite often used by people who live together in the US already or have lived abroad together. Newlyweds can skip this stuff and deal with bona fides at the visa interview.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...
Understanding the big picture is priceless. Anonymous
