Hey MENA Peeps! is it morning if one hasn't gone to bed yet in 24 hours? LOL!

Today we did all kinds of small-time car repair on my car-baby-bff, whose name is "car" and who is an awesome seafoam green. Car needed his headlight changed and some parkinglights. I went into Advanced auto and insisted I needed parking lights and the dude told me what i wanted were stoplights. IDIOT! I needed parking lights. At any rate, I was totally vindicated.

Also, last night I learned Ammar is too big for me to heimlich properly. He was sucking on cough drops and he started to choke... I thought on the cough drops. Well, he had apparently swallowed wrong and inhaled, but in fact when he started coughing he spit out the drops. Well, I asked him if he was choking and he nodded his head. I learned later he didn't know the difference between choking and coughing (and still doesn't, no matter how many times I explained it. Should go get the Arabic dictionary.) So when he nodded his head yes, I just got behind him and totally heimliched the ####### out of him but realized in the process of my one jerk (because he broke free after that lol) that his ribs are too big for my arms to really fit around and get under. I informed him next time he is really choking, i am going to have to punch him in the stomach/diaphragm. He said he could hardly wait. At any rate, he was quite surprised I had tried to do that to him and I felt really bad.. because i know that had to hurt. I was aiming for removal of foreign object, you know? not pain-free so i wasn't careful in my positioning beyond making sure I wasn't going to crack off his xiphoid process and accidentally kill him like you can in CPR.

But for real! I mean he said he was choking, he was coughing like you wouldn't believe, he stopped inhaling, and he was beginning to drool... in less than 10 seconds. wouldn't you think he was choking? I feel bad for really hurting him like that! Bad and guilty! :(

None of my posts have ever been helpful. Be forewarned.

That's quite and experience, Julianna. Don't feel bad - you were acting in good faith and tried to help. Hope Ammar is doing better.

True, very true. Bad wife would have just sat by and said, "get yourself some water." You win the wife of the year award (or maybe wife of the week) ;) even if he doesn't realize it just yet.

Julianna I bet that was scary. :star::star::star::star::star: Good job though! In professional rescue we're taught to open the persons mouth first and sweep the back of the throat for any foreign objects that we might be able to grasp before attempting the Heimlich. But it's good you know now he is too big for you to attempt the Heimlich. This way next time you can direct him to the corner of a counter or table to try to run himself on in an attempt to self Heimlich. That's also good to know encase he is ever alone and choking.

Julianna, boy how scary that must have been for you. But good for your hubby that you were a fast thinking wife. I think i would have been in a panic. Well just got back from cousin's memorial service. Isn't it sad that the only time you see others that you haven't seen in years are usually at funerals. Blah, i hate that. It was a very nice service, and one thing i learned is that he used to volunteer for the Hunger Task Force in Milwaukee, and apparently, they put his name and say we will miss you on a huge bill board so everyone that goes by it can see it!!! How cool is that!!

Terrie - that is super cool! What a way to honor someone's good deeds. He's remembered very well. God bless you and your family at this tough time - but how awesome that he has such an amazing tribute to him.
