I wasn't sure whether to post this or not, in the end I decided I would...

I truly cannot believe how offensive this thread has become with all the name calling and stuff. I truly don’t understand the furious hatred against the Italian team for one freaking episode, because despite the big consequences it still was one single episode IN THE WHOLE WORLD CUP. We won 2 games and tied another one with an own goal (and I refuse to reply to the poster who said the US had a disallowed goal, passive/active off side should be something a soccer fan knows).I cannot believe the lack of objectivity from people that claim themselves as soccer fans, but they still cannot admit the Australian team was totally unable to produce real goal balls despite being a man up for half of the game (and we were down one DEFENDER), no matter how bad they were supposedly dominating. I cannot believe no one said our red card was uncalled for, yellow yes...not red though. I also cannot believe everyone was so damn sure Australia would have won without that pk, because once again..they might have had ball possession but no real threats to our net. I admit I highly doubt Italy would have scored in extra time being in 10 and playing bad (offensively though because our defense ROCKED once again), but I don't think Australia would have either. We probably would have gone to the penalties and no offence...but Italy would have been the big favorite there, and I say this just because the players are used to high tension more than the Aussies that's all. It just seems that being the underdog justifies everything these days and automatically makes you the best team just because. I cannot believe no one saw that the Australian defender, despite going for the ball-and that is fair of course, was in the way of our guy with his whole body so, even though it might have been a dubious call I owe you that, that is still why the guy FELL for God's sake! But no, the guy automatically turned into a coward along with the team and us fans as well. I am very disappointed at all these comments I have been reading. It really makes me sad and I mean it. I love soccer and I am all about being fair. Yesterday I was the first one to say that Italy played bad-even though our defense ROCKED!!, I can't say it enough- and I was the first one to compliment such a good young team saying they’ll do really great with more experience and practice in the future. Everything I wrote I tried to put smileys to try to get the idea it was a friendly discussion, and what did I get in return? All kinds of nasty comments, even about the fact that smileys are annoying!

It is just soccer people. One freaking game of soccer. And even if you really think the guy dived, well..he wasn't the first he won't be the last and that applies to every team whatever you all like to think. And if someone wants to be a smartass about this last sentence I wrote by saying we fake all the time and they don't, then I want real examples not just words and wasteful common places. If you really want to be mad at someone then it should be the ref, he is the one who makes the calls. And about Italians faking/securing penalties/fixing games...yeah, you're all so right...that's why we get penalties every game and we did so well in every international competition of the last 10 years or so. Truth is we got kicked out by a very bad ref 4 years ago, that eventually got suspended, and by a very suspicious tie that made the other 2 teams advance and Italy go out after the first round at the Euro 2004. But still...the main reason why we got out is because we were unable to SCORE GOALS then, same problem Australia had yesterday. Same problems we are having too now really. It is a game. Even though soccer is religion in Italy as well, I still don't think I will ever need to drink a game away, ever in my entire life. It is just a freaking game. Problems in life are other things, so are cowards that would really piss me off at the end of the day.

Let's move on-we really cannot change what happened- and Happy World Cup, may the best win!

That was my comment and it was FAR from nasty. I was saying that I hate the nodding smilies on this site. It was a generalized comment in no way aimed at you.

I think you, of all people, need to remember this. You are the one who is all upset here - no one else. You are taking soccer banter as serious attacks on you...when YOU have nothing to do with it. We can love and hate any team we want...that's life...and that's definitely an internet forum! If you don't want to read inflammatory remarks about a team that you enjoy...then don't come into this thread and read them...just my opinion.

If you can't take a heated discussion, then don't participate. It's too bad that you took this whole thing so personally...as you say...it's just a game.
