This weekend I had it on, first cause the US was playing, second cause I have HDTV and I'm still amazed by the picture :), but I still can't get into the game. In the France-S. Korea match there was a point where it was *exactly* like the Simpsons episode where soccer came to Springfield. The one guy (striker?) kicks it to the center, then the center kicks it back, then again 3 or so more times. Boring! Maybe if I'd grown up watching soccer I'd understand it better, but it's just not that exciting to keep me watching the whole time.

As to the game being boring, I don't know about that. I never get that excited about any other sport and found most of the games I saw recently gripping to say the least. A good way to get all worked up about the game is to watch it at a bar with other people who will most likely be so into it that they pull you along. :)

Permanent Green Card Holder since 2006, considering citizenship application in the future.

American footy: run 2 yards, stop...10 minute setup for another 4 yards....someone calls a time out, and somehow, an X minute game (How long is it anyways?) makes the night news on Monday come on at midnite cos the game lasted 4 hours :lol:

GOAL for Spain btw Fernando Torres at 76'

I think the thing about enjoying soccer/football is at least having a basic understanding of the rules. My wife is from the Philippines and before she got here wouldn't have known a soccer ball if she fell on one, but our daughter has been playing and from watching her matches and the English Premier League (EPL) she enjoys watching it. With the World Cup she and I also enjoy more the matches with players on the team we know from the EPL matches, otherwise to make a pun the players are foreign to us.

YAY for the US kicking Italy's butt!!!

I know, I know...Italy played very bad, but still...they kicked our butt so bad we had to tie for them... :lol:

hmmm, anyone forget that the US played with one less player for almost the entire second half and Italy STILL couldn't beat them??? :huh:

Wooohoo Frances, that was one of the best matches I have watched so far, the US goalie (who plays for an english team if I am not mistaken :whistle: ) was absolutely superb and yes they played with 9 men for a long time. That was an achievement and one to be proud of :thumbs:

But got to say it:;

GO ENGLAND GO, tonight is the night :thumbs:

We all agreed Italy played really really bad and the US handled the game better than the first one...but to say they kicked ### is way too much, otherwise they would have scored when they were 11 vs. 11 or even better when they were 11 vs 10 :yes: My compliments to the team for resisting so well being in 9, but still...that's not kicking ###. :no:

Once again...we had to tie for them :whistle:
