I-131: Advance Parole form

Ok - I thought after filling in the I-785 (what a breeze) that the last form would be a walk in the park as well but I am confused - it doesn't take much :P

I've been using the example forms as a guide but this one doesn't appear to have been completed and offers no explanation for the paragraph at the beginning of Part 7:

On a separate sheet(s) of paper, please explain how you qualify for an advance parole document and what circumstances warrant

issuance of advance parole. Include copies of any documents you wish considered. (See instructions.)

Now I've looked at the instructions and they all seem to refer to applying for AP if you have already filed AOS and need to leave for an emergency i.e. get an expedited AP. I have no immediate plans to return to the UK as we can't afford it but wanted to apply for AP anyway as you never know what will come up.

How did other people do it? Does anyone have any examples of the letter they included? I just want to get this all sent off by the end of the month!!!

Thanks sooo much in advance :D

All we did was fill out the form and where it asks about why you want it we just put down "in case of family emergency". No problems, hubby was approved for multiple AP.

Ok - so I can check the more than one trip thingy... what about the date of intended travel? Did you leave that blank or put in some made-up date?

Also - what evidence did you submit with it? Reading the instructions it wants:

a. A copy of any document issued to you by USCIS showing your present status in the United States; and

b. An explanation or other evidence showing the circumstances that warrant issuance of an advance parole document; or

c. If you are an applicant for adjustment of status, a copy of a USCIS receipt as evidence that you filed the adjustment application;

d. If you are traveling to Canada to apply for an immigrant visa, a copy of the U.S. consular appointment letter.

Do I just need to photocopy my visa and add a letter saying I want AP for if I need to leave in an emergency?

Hey Aly! I was confused too. I'm still working on my AOS paperwork two weeks after starting - mostly because I get fazed by the sheer volume of it.

Anyway, if this helps I hope it's correct;

Part 2: I checked (d)

Part 3: (1) 'unknown'

(2) 'short visits (less than two weeks)'

skip to part 7: checked 'more than one trip'

and included a supplement to Part 7 which reads 'I wish to apply for advance parole and obtain the necessary permission to travel to my home country prior to receipt of permanent residency status in the event of emergency or family illness. I do not have any specific plans to travel at this time.'

I am stuck on the I-864. We are using his mom as sponsor and are not clear on whether to complete I-864 AND I-864A for her or just I-864A. Do you know whether these need notarising? I'm looking for that info in the instructions and feel sure I have read that somewhere but now can't find it.

I haven't a clue as we don't need a co-sponsor - Debz might be able to help you as I know she has had to do all that...

I've been really good - I did the I-485 and the I-864 (Is that right? I get the numbers muddled :D) in one day, the G-325a yesterday evening and the I-131 and the I-785 today... the I-131 is the only one that has given me any grief!!

I've put down the same thing you have - I guess if it isn't good enough for them then we will get RFEs together!!

That is really good. I remember putting my interview paperwork together with no problems at all. Done and dusted in one day. But, this - well, I don't know whether it's the heat, the distractions or just being sick of paperwork that's causing me problems. I'm determined to have it all mailed by Monday though. RFE's at this stage seem less tragic than at the pre K1 approval stage.

Defo - you should try to be an August filer too - it gets quiet in there :unsure:

I know what you mean - I'm not bothered by time taken or RFEs really :D

It's prolly hard to motivate yourself as you've been used to having leisure time and now it is like working all over again!! I just want it done and out of the way so I can forget about it for a while :D

I should be an August filer with any luck!!

Am I right in thinking 8 photos are required? 2 each for I-485, I-131, I-765 and G-325A? Do we need G-325A's for the US citizen or no?

Edit: no photos required for G-325A in addition to those required for I-485. So, six in total?

I'm just looking at each individual set of instructions. The VJ instructions say to attach photos to the G-325A but the G-325A is a supplement to the I-485 and so only 2 photos are required for I-485 and G-325A. If that makes sense :P

Also, EAD and AP both require a set of two passport photos.

So, i'm sticking with six as a total.

I have a headache!!!!

In the 131 right after Part 3 it says to skip to Part 7 if you are applying for advance parole document but it seems people are filling out parts 4 and 5. Are people also attaching another document for Part 7?
