He keeps his resume on their system and they claim to send him details of jobs whenever they come up. They also contacted him a while after graduation to see what he was up to.

He hasn't recieved anything useful from them yet. :P

I looked at the ITT web site. Indicates they are applying for accreditation. Which means they aren't yet so the paper you get from them is just a piece of paper. One of the prescreens HR does for us when we say we want a college grad is to throw out all applications from places that are not accredited. Which is kind of sad for those that spent lots of money on something that means less than something they would have got from a very similar place. For example DeVry is accredited and we talk to their grads all the time. ITT isn't so they don't get even in the pile to pick from .

My fiancee is (almost) 24 years old and only graduated last year... how is he supposed to get his foot into the door and gain more experience when no one will hire him? :(

Urgh, I totally sympathise with this. I graduated from uni last summer, and have been out of work since because of immigration, and then because there are no jobs. What I'm doing now makes me feel like I wasted 3.5 years of my life to get a good degree. I'm doing what I can to get experience on my resume by volunteering, and working as a receptionist at an ad agency (as I want to get into advertising).... but it's a catch 22. People don't want to hire me because I have no experience but how can I get experience unless someone gives me a chance?

Just wanted to say that I understand anyways. It can't be like this forever. Does your fiance apply for jobs online only? If so one idea to make people realise he's an actual person would be for him to personally go to these companies with his resume... that's my next step anyway. I read somewhere that employers are more likely to take you seriously if you make the effort to go in and hand in your resume, but I don't know how true that is.

And I second Reba.... if I were your fiance or his dad I would not work for this guy anymore until he paid me. That is unacceptable.

If he had signed some kind of an agreement with them, then he'd have a leg to stand on (legally) as far as not being paid. It's too bad he didn't do that when he got on with them for his own protection. Without that, it'd pretty much be his word vs. theirs and I doubt a lawyer would be apt to take that on. Although I suppose a call to legal aid to enquire about it couldn't hurt.

Beyond that, there's not much he can do other than stop working for them or keep working for them and gathering experience for a resume - and hope that he gets paid. Personally I'm not sure I'd give my time and effort away as charity -- resume experience or not!

ITT does not have a good reputation in general in the business world. It's basically a glorified diploma mill.

I have a friend that graduated from ITT with the exact same problem (only his degree was in Computer Animation). Basically no business that is hiring will look at him b/c he graduated from ITT and does not have experience. That compounds the fact that there isn't a great demand for that degree field in this area.

As much as it sucks, but he might have to bite the bullet for a while and get a job at a fast food type establishment. He has management experience so it might help him move up fairly quickly.

I feel for you and your fiance Gemmie. And I agree 100% that he needs to quit the arrangement with his employment as soon as possible. His dad is no better for staying on too!
