Anyone out there recommend any good US to UK phone cards.. That I could buy online without too many catches, fees or other charges and tax that get applied each time you dial.. I don’t want to spend $10 for 15 minutes on the phone… :hehe:

I was previously using 1010297 before dialing back home.. but it appears 1010297 want me to register with them to continue using the service… :(

Any and all recommendations would be most appreciated.. :D

If you've got a reasonably fast internet connection get yourself onto Skype. All you need is a microphone and some speakers (although USB phones are now available !!) and you can call Ireland for about 0.012p/min. Also, for about 30 euros you can buy a number just like your old irish telephone number which people back home can use to call you on your comupter as if you still live around the corner !!

Mark :)

www.pennytalk.com. Its 2c per min (after 49c connection charge, but after a couple of hours of talking that doesnt matter).

I work in France, UK and Switzerland and my USC fiancee can call me in any of these countries for 2c per min.

It also works as a long distance card in the USA as well. And it tops itself up (from credit card) when it falls below $5.00

when i was buying calling cards to call london i used masterbell.com but then i got lingo which is a VOIP service. Lingo is the only one i found that includes western europe in it calling plan. so now i can call anywhere in the US, Canada, and Western Europe unlimted for $22.00 a month (which is much less then i was spending on calling cards) I love it because you are not tied to the PC when you want to talk.

www.viapin.com if you can call domestic long distance for free; 1.8c/min to the UK and I think to Ireland too. No connection or maintenance fees. :)

Thank you all for your responses & pm’s, they are very much appreciated!

Unfortunately VoIP services in any form are unworkable with our dialup service.. I left a nice ADSL 2.2MB (actual speed was approx 1.8mb) connection back home for something that hits about 44000bps over here… :hehe:

I’ve tried zaptel.com.. god never again this isn’t being a good day today.. their service is laughable, security is a total joke and to be honest I don’t have 16 hours to wait while this company gets “verbal conformation from the card holder” even though they already sent the charge for the phone card to the bank and got paid for it.. good god! If I wanted to wait 16 hours to phone home I’d have got on a plane and went back in person… and to be told by this person from zaptel on the phone that they called a number of times today to confirm the order is insane.. unless caller ID is telling me lies, I've had we had no calls all day

I’ll try out one of the other company’s I think..

I assume you had a better time dealing with zaptel than I have
