How much will it cost me?Or can I go back to my tax preparer of 05And ask for a copy? For the N 400 purposes what is the best way to present the taxes: a transcript orThe exact copy of the filed taxes??Thank you for your responses

Actually USCIS prefer tax transcript to the copy of your tax returns.

It is simple, less space-consumed, and certified by IRS.

It is free, and takes 10 days for tax return transcript, and 30 days for tax account transcript.

The difference between both is whether it is before IRS audited/adjudicated or after.

You can call them up to ask for it, or fax the form 4506T.

Where does this "10 days" thing everyone talks about come from? The last three times we needed tax transcripts (I-751, N-400, and naturalization interview), the IRS faxed them directly to us the same day.

IRS Form 4506T itself mentioned up to 10 days for Tax Return Transcript, and up to 30 days for Tax Account Transcript.

Though the form mentions 30 days for Tax Account Transcript, I got mine within a week. I called the 800 # and ordered. If you send 4506T by mail, it takes longer. I have also heard that if you call IRS and ask them to fax the transcripts you can get it the same day. In my experience IRS is pretty quick with response time.
