I will be getting married next month in Phill. and filing petition for my wife with married name. However her Phill. passport is in her maiden name, I guess she will have to apply for a new passport. Anyone can help answer what to do?

You should bring the passport to nearest DFA office. Passport will be ammended to read into her married name. Ammendment fee was Php100.00 as of February 2008. Requirements include CFO certificate, NSO authenticated marriage certificate, NSO authenticated birth certificate of your wife, also xerox copies of those. It took 7 days for the ammendment.

Applying for new passport is not necessary unless it was lost or expired.

God bless your journey!

Yes you could do this. In our case, we just got a new passport and it was no hassle. We just showed our NSO marriage certificate.

Well, if you are getting married, then why not just renew her passport (even if it has not expired yet) in her married name right after the wedding? You will need an NSO copy of your marriage certificate. But the thing is, you will not be able to get that till, say about 6 months. After your wedding, soon after your marriage is registered, get a CERTIFIED true copy from the local registrat authenticated by the NSO on security paper. You may want to get a few copies as you will need those in filing your petition/s.

Also, she will need to get a certificate from the Commision for Filipinos Overseas prior to renewing her passport or leaving to join you. See www.cfo.gov.ph ( if i am not mistaken). I just did these last friday...was not a pleasant experience as I did not know till then that i could not renew my passport in my married name without it. Thankfully, i had all pertinent documents with me.

Advance Congratulations and good luck! :)
