I believe that there's pretty compelling evidence that a large primate once thought to be extinct, still exists, but these guys are total shiesters!

Unfortunately for those who really, really want to believe, the wait continues.

Researchers presented evidence today of a large, shaggy (and dead) creature they claim is Bigfoot. Two of the men say they found the mysterious beast in the north Georgia woods and stashed it in a freezer. Though the bold duo had claimed they would present DNA evidence, photographs, and video to prove they did indeed nab the big guy, early reports say the hunters "didn't reveal much."

Even before the press conference convened, experts and bloggers alike expressed their doubts about the evidence. In a cheeky post on CNET, one writer described the "soupcon of skepticism" surrounding the find. Scientific American acted more, well, scientific and called up a noted Bigfoot investigator. He left no doubt that he thinks the whole story stinks.

LiveScience.com, meanwhile, quickly pointed out that this isn't the first time that Tom Biscardi, a researcher brought in to verify the alleged beast, has claimed to possess incontrovertible evidence of the furtive goliath.

Skepticism aside, it's been awhile since we've seen a story ignite on the Web like this one. Searches for "latest bigfoot sightings" rose more than 6,000% over the last two days alone. Interest in "bigfoot" soared 1,630%, landing the query at the top of our fastest movers. Searchers with a more suspicious bend propelled queries for "real bigfoot pictures" (+2,589%) and "real bigfoot" (+2,853%) skyward. And that's just the beginning.

More than 115 distinct queries bombarded the Search box yesterday, each hoping to uncover some fresh look at the Bigfoot conundrum. Among the lookups sniffing for clues: Bigfoot body, body photo, capture, captured, carcass, caught, corpse, dead, discovery, dna, find, freezer, hoax, killed, news, photos, remains, shot, sighting, tracker, and video. Whew.

If nothing else, these Georgia hunters know how to whip up buzz. Whether there's a real body behind the hubbub—or just an elaborately tricked-out ape costume—remains to be seen.

‘Bigfoot’ press conference reveals possum DNA

Photos presented include other alleged family members

PALO ALTO, Calif. — Bigfoot lived in North Georgia, and his cousins are still there. That’s what a pair of Clayton County outdoorsmen claim.

Matthew Whitton and Rick Dyer said a second round of DNA testing on what they claim is a dead 7-foot bigfoot they say they stumbled upon while hiking in June in North Georgia is still being completed.

Of three samples in a preliminary DNA test, one came back inconclusive, one contained traces of human DNA and one had traces of opossum DNA — probably from something the creature ate, they said.

They didn’t produce a body — that’s in a hidden location, they said, after being moved from a freezer that broke down a couple of times. They also wouldn’t say exactly where they found the creature, and where they claimed they saw a band of others watching them. And they won’t let anyone but their own hand-picked scientists examine the body.

Still “we’re now the best Bigfoot hunters in the world,” said Whitton, 31, of Ellenwood, who with Dyer, 28, wore ballcaps advertising their bigfootracker.com Web site.

The pair — Whitton is a Clayton County police officer who’s on disability after being wounded in a robbery investigation, and Dyer is a car salesman and tow truck operator — did produce two more still pictures Friday. A blurry one, they claimed, clearly shows one of the other bigfoot family members they saw. Another overlit, blurry photo shows what they claimed were the mouth and teeth of the dead Sasquach.

An autopsy on the animal is in the works, they said. Scientists are about to get involved, but one is on vacation until Monday and two others from Russia have yet to arrive, they said.

Tom Biscardi, a longtime Bigfoot enthusiast from Menlo Park, Calif., with whom the pair have teamed to promote their discovery, swears it isn’t a hoax.

“This is as real as you’re standing right where you are, sir,” Biscardi said.

Others said the story doesn’t have legs.

“This is becoming like an alien autopsy,” said Jeffrey Meldrum, a noted bigfoot researcher and a professor of anthropology at Idaho State University.

Whitton and Dyer haven’t done much to satisfy skeptics. They previously posted a video of the purported bigfoot on YouTube in which Whitton’s brother pretended to be a scientist, then announced it was all done in fun. And a recorded greeting on Whitton’s phone formerly claimed he and Dyer were leading expeditions to find not just bigfoot but also the Loch Ness monster and leprechauns.

Friday, Whitton said those were spoofs intended to throw off some of the “psychos” who had been bugging them since they appeared on a radio show touting their find. Dyer said they teamed up with Biscardi because “when you punch in Bigfoot (on the Internet), the first name that comes up is Tom Biscardi.”

Biscardi runs an Internet radio show and Web site devoted to bigfoot under the umbrella of a company called Searching for Bigfoot Inc. In 2005, Biscardi claimed he had come across a woman in Nevada who had captured two living bigfoot creatures. He charged about $15 for visitors to his Web site to see blurry streaming video claiming to show the captured creatures.

Friday, Biscardi said he subsequently determined the woman was “mentally ill.”

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

ITS INCONTROVERTIBLE EVIDENCE..

.. of a blurry ### photo.

This sounds like the aliens-have-visited-us gang. Conspiracy theorists searching for something to be true (which is fine and dandy), but completely ignoring rational evidence which discounts their claims (not so fine and dandy).

Most of the "sightings" happen in North America, and we get plenty in California. The most compelling rational reason they overlook is.. how the #### could an ape species of this size survive autonomously? Is it hermaphroditic? Mammals need other mates in their species, which would imply, after over 150 years of allegations, it should have a pretty decent population to still be surviving. It is a mammal that doesn't ####### and has no bones or leave behind any evidence like corpses of dead things or evidence of habitat?

Of course not. It just.. exists. Invisibly. Superintelligent just like aliens, and able to cover it's own tracks. All of them.

Of course this is a hoax, from people who have a financial interest but of course, most Bigfoot sightings occur in North America, just as most Yeti sightings occur in Nepal. The fact that these "creatures" have different names in different countries isn't really evidence against their existence. Anymore than "sightings" are evidence for its existence.

The myth that keeps this going is that eyewitness testimony is good, solid evidence. In fact, it's the least reliable evidence but people don't want to accept how unreliable what they see is. The abuse of this myth is comical here but I'm not so sure it's comical to people who are in prison after jurors felt they HAD to convict because an eyewitness put the defendant (and Bigfoot) at the scene of the crime.

This sounds so much like the aliens-have-visited us nonsense it's not even funny.

Former Astronaut said they saw..

Some redneck out in the middle of nowhere said they saw..

Some pilots from Mexico said they saw..

I love this part. Like....what? They called the scientist and said "We've chosen YOU to autopsy this Bigfoot corpse!" and his reply was "Oh? Sounds great. I'll get to that right after I'm done here in Disney World ok?"??

Plus the others are from Russia? What's wrong with American scientists? Oh wait, that's right. They're all on vacation.

 These guys are milking this for all it's worth. I wonder how much money they've made just off of the publicity and hits to their website? P.T. Barnum would be proud.

The only way for them to prove that this is a real Sasquatch is to get in independent scientists to conducts tests on the body. They don't seem to be doing this so my conclusion at present is:

It's a load of old bollocks. Especially the DNA part about the test coming back with Opossom DNA "cause it was something it ate".
