Has anyone else seen the movie Earth? I watched it a few weeks back and was quite surprised. Being the American I am, with fairly Amero-centric world history I really had no idea what the partition really brought. That movie really opened my eyes and a bit of understanding about the tensions between Pakistan and India. I also spoke with a man that was a POW during the struggles between Pakistan and Bangladesh. Interesting!! And all of this in my parents lifetimes!!

On the language front, thanks for all the suggestions. My spoken Urdu is coming along. My greatest trouble comes when my SO and his friends throw Balti into their Urdu. Durn them!!! Confuses me so much. So I make a habit of throwing in Spanish, French or Nepali when I speak English. HA. I really want to learn Balti/Tibetan too, but that is going to have to wait a bit. Too much at once fries my wee brain. I'll stick with the verbal Urdu for now, but need to learn the written soon. If I can write something down, I'll remember it much longer. And writing in the script will help me with the nuances of pronounciation - at least it did with Nepali. I'm eager to try reading poetry too, but I think I'll stick to grade school level Urdu right now! Thanks for all the links Psoft!!

Hoping for good news for everyone this week!

Shonnies news :

From Congressman to Embassy:

This is in response to your inquiry of May 23,2006, concering K-3 visa case of Bingo.

Bingie contacted you reguarding this case.

We are currently Processing the applicants immigrant visa applicaton under I-130 petition.

Thus, the applicants k-3 visa petition will be returned to the Bureau of citizenshio and immigration

services( BCIS formerly INS).

Bingos immigrant visa application is currently undergoing necessary adminstrative processing

as part of the security clearance procedure. Adminstarative Processing is an interagency process that generally takes a minimum of 6 weeks and has no maximum time limit. The processing is not done at post ISL , but rather takes place in DC. Thus, vis applicant affected by additional screen should expect delays before the case is concluded. it is diffucult to predict the amount of time the clearance process will take.

Once the adninstrative processing is complete we will contact the applicant.

we hope this information is helpful - blah blah.

sincerely,

we dont give a Chop fk ISL embassy

I'm afraid I have to agree with Shon - expect further delays b/c of it... my fiance had never been to the US either but had been to several other countries in the last couple of years, and as a result the case was at the embassy for several months because of it... I guess they had to check with all those countries or something - I'm not entirely sure what the process entailed but I do know it was some type of internal processing - the CO told me that over the phone... then in mid April it went on to DOS... now something you have to keep in mind is that it is case by case so who knows maybe your case will be different - for your sake I hope it is shorter rather than longer but be prepared either way. Good luck insha'Allah.

I email the embassy today they said this:

Dear Madam,

As I am sure you are aware, visa security procedures have been extremely strict

since September 11, 2001. Security clearance procedures can sometimes take a

very long time, as is the case with your husband's application. Government

agencies in the United States are making efforts to shorten the visa security

processing time, but for some people, the process is longer than it is for

others. Unfortunately I am unable to give you any specific information

regarding the security clearance procedures that your husband's case is

currently undergoing, nor am I able to give you a definite timeline for their

completion.

We appreciate your continued patience.

I hope this information will be helpful to you.

Thanks

Shon, at least it was a kind letter. Not helpful in the least, but not the blank indifference that seems to infect so many officers/immigration staff.

Psoft, yes my SO is from Baltistan. Although he spent much of his early years in ISB. He's from east of Skardu - a mountain boy through and through.
