0k i wont post the bad news no more.

If you need to to vent, that is understandable, but if you focus on this sh*t it will just get you down more...

If you guys are inclined this way - I need some more good energy out there today (prayers if you pray). Two of my women friends are missing on a big peak in Alaska. They may be still finding their way down the mountain, but it is starting to look bleak. Send some good mojo their way will you? The winds have been ripping up high and no one can get up there to check on them. If things don't change soon, it could turn out bad. They are two dayum tough women, but they have probably been without food/fuel for some time now... they can only hold out so long.

Thanks in advance for sending some good vibes out there for them.

psoft the link is not right

click2dial.com

Sorry domain is on 'NET' NOT 'COM ..... here u go http://www.click2dial.net/.

Alright PSoft, maybe you can help me with this one too.

I'd love to learn to read/write Urdu, but am having h*ll of a time. What I feel like I need is a video or childrens book or something to show me how to draw the letters. I can see them in the Urdu language books I have, but I don't know how to write them. Back when I was in kindergarten, the teachers showed you how to write the letters, then you copied them down over and over till you figured it out. I tried to find examples on my last trip to Paki, but all my friends kids there were learning only English that way. They didn't understand me wanting to learn Urdu that way... and when I asked them to show me the drew them too fast to grasp...

How did you learn as a kid? Any suggestions where I can find a resource to teach me to write the letters? I had a great Nepali class at Cornell, so I learned Devanagari script. Unfortunately, I haven't found anyone local that knows how to write (let alone speak Urdu). I found several books online, but I don't want to order one and find out it is lousy.

Any online aids or other suggestions?

How 'bout whipping out an animation for me of the alphabet and all the connector letters, etc...?? You and Hafiz have IT backgrounds right? A little Java script??? lol! ;)

Psoft and Hafiz,

Here's a link to an animation for Devangari to get you started in your coding...

sorry i had to use that example. lol

I have no Idea but how many of you know the Urdu history here is some details for you guys. Urdu language came into existence through Persian, Turkish Sinsikart and other spoken Asian languages. In early days people used to called it ‘Language of the Army’

Urdu/Hindi belong to the Indo-Iranian branch of the Indo-European family of languages.

'Urdu' comes from the Persian zaban-e-urdu-e-mu'alla (language of the imperial court), a gloss which gives important clues to its history. Originally it was one of the languages spoken in the Hindi region of India. During the sixteenth century, however, large areas of India fell under the rule of Muslims whose language and culture were predominantly Persian. While the structure of Urdu remained essentially Indian, the vocabulary was greatly influenced by Persian. Urdu spread all over India through administrative structures, army encampments and bazaars.

For Hafiz,

Example,

Paeesh NAMAZ. In Persian Paeesh mean (Agay meaning frontline)

Namaz: (Persian word for Salat)

Paeesh Nameez : who is leading Namaz yani Moulana

In order to find those words get the Urdu dictionary (Lugaat e Urdu or Dibistan e Urdu)

I love Urdu language I think it is family inheritance my father was Journalist, poet, writer and professor of Urdu that is reason I am very much in to it. In my spare times I enjoys to read Urdu literature especially Urdu poetry and Mirza Ghalib, Mir Anees and Iqbal my favoriate poets.

Do you have experience with any of the these books? I looked at a few I found in bookstores and they seems very weak... I have two "learn Urdu" books/tape sets now, but they aren't teaching me HOW to write the script. They show the script in type, but that doesn't seem to help me learn to write it myself. I need someone to show me or an animation... I guess I'm more of a visual learner than I thought.

Thanks for the links though. I'll give one of the script books a try. My vocabulary is growing fast, but only verbally. Thanks again for taking the time to search.

In my opinion first make your bases strong (learn verbally) then move forward (writing end). I have seen most of these books and I think they are okay :star:

Brother if you read my earlier post I didn’t declare that I am going to teach her ‘Poetry’

I wrote about my favorites. Some times it seems to me that you are ‘Fake’ I.D. You are trying to be someone but in real you are something else. It is not possible for anyone to know up and down of a country in five months. How do you know that there are two types of Urdu? I spoke to you few days ago on Shia and Sunni issue I was shocked even that time you had enough knowledge (even there is no Shia in Turkey). Dude tell us who are you really? It seems to me you are KBG agent (lol)

I would like to clear you one thing here that there is no difference between Urdu at all. It is culture which effects on language. Urdu of Delhi and Urdu of Lucnow or Karachi everything same the only difference is education. An illiterate persons language, gesture always different then an intellectual person.

In America you will find different accents educated Caucasian, black, asian are always soft spoken on the other hand you will find harsh, slang accents among uneducated folks.

By the way CARVAN also a Persian Word which mean ‘group of travelers’

Man is a wonderful creature; he sees through the layers of fat (eyes), hears through a bone (ears) and speaks through a lump of flesh (tongue).

Due to the Urdu-speaking populations of India and Pakistan being separated since 1946-47, the spoken Urdu of the two regions has diverged somewhat. However, back in 1940 they were identical and even today they are almost exactly alike.

I grew up near Agra. I remember once in class 7 Hindi class (they included spoken Urdu in the class), they had us sit down and listen to samples of Pakistani TV and the state of Uttar Pradesh's Urdu language broadcast and find differences. There were some, but not many. For the most part, post-independence Pakistani Urdu has absorbed a lot more terminology from the Middle East while Indian Urdu has pretty much stagnated.

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.
