CALLING ALL GOING THOUGH ISLAMABAD PAKISTAN- OFF TOPIC

If a woman were charged to work in order to provide for her livelihood in addition to her natural duties of pregnancy, child birth, and breast feeding this would be an obligation above what she could bear and would be an injustice to women. Otherwise this work would be at the expense of her natural duties of pregnancy, birth, breast feeding and raising her children.

OH MAN starting up some heat,

4 functions:

1. natural duties of pregnancy,

2. birth

3. breast feeding

4. raising her children.

On the Lighter side

The Pakistan Medical Association has written to the Secretary, Health, Naushad A Sheikh, regarding implementation of Prohibition of Smoking Ordinance, 2002, copies of which were sent to both the Federal and Provincial Health Minsters, Federal Secretary, Health, Anwer Mahmood, City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal and those in charge of all the hospitals of Karachi urging upon the authorities concerned to get the ordinance implemented.

The ordinance was passed on October 15, 2002, imposing a ban on smoking at public places, aboard public transport, and also for a ban on the cigarette advertising. It noted with great concern that doctors and paramedical staff were smoking and chewing betel leaf, Chalia, and Gutka during duty hours. (mashallah such concerned individuals we have lol)

It also said that public sector hospital patients and their attendants were also often found smoking and chewing betel leaf and all such other item containing tobacco within the hospital premises, even in the wards. All government office staff is also found using all these items during duty time.

The PMA believes that the government should implement the Anti-Smoking Ordinance, 2002, at least in all public sector hospitals and government offices. It demanded that hospital should be declared smoke-free.

I understand that your wives don't wanna work but I don't like how you guys say that women are not obligated to support their family. To me, it has nothing to do with the money but the fact that they are educated and are out there doing something that might make them feel good. My husband is very into religion but he isn't stopping me from doing what I want to and trust me I am not bringing significant income into the household. I think I would go crazy if I stayed home all day cooking and cleaning but if one day that is all I do then it will be a decision made by me and supported by hubby. Not one that is dictated by him using verses from the Quran. But hey, as long as your women are happy then kudos to you guys...for some reason in our culture females are nothing unless they get married and have kids. Education means nothing...tsk tsk so sad.

Nicely put nizzy!

to the Narrowminded men on this thread:

If a woman is PG and needs to take time off there are provisions made by law. Maternity leave

and leave of absence < FMLA>. being a mother is someting that even us working ladies charish.

dont think we are less than a mother or a wife because we choose to help our husbands. I have a career

if I did not - then my husband would have to keep his behind in Pakistan. its because I have a career

I did not have to religh on my mama to sponser my own husband.

My mother whom i consider a strong woman. she raised 4 healthy strong kids, served 22 years

in the military. she retired with wonderful list of awards and decorations. she still had time to earn her degrees in college. she was also serve in desert storm!!

working and having her own money allowed me the opportunities of a life time. oh and by the way she made more money than my dad- for she out ranked him!

These things made my mom feel great and they made my father very proud! Proud of having a good wife.

in alot of ways I also follow in her foot steps. I thank god I have a husband that support me and my goals.

it took a long time to find my soul mate. it was well worth the wait.

DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER

The World Trade Center site was still a raw mound of twisted steel and debris when Muhammad Jawwad applied for naturalization in November 2001.

Less than a year later, he was called for both his test and interview - the final step before he was to be sworn in shortly afterward as a U.S. citizen.

"I remember the woman asking me, 'Why is your name Muhammad?'" said Jawwad, 46, a health insurance enrollment caseworker at Coney Island Hospital who came from Pakistan 11 years ago. "I told her that's what my parents put down on my birth certificate."

Jawwad, whose wife and kids already have become citizens, has waited 3-1/2 years for his swearing in even though immigration officials are required to complete the process within 120 days of the interview. They say the holdup is his FBI clearance.

Immigrant advocates say hundreds - if not thousands - of men with Arabic-sounding or Muslim names are experiencing endless delays in what should be the pro forma final step of the citizenship application process.

"I understand the burden that the government has in wanting to make sure that all security checks go through," said Dev Viswanath, a Queens attorney who said he has two clients who have waited years for their swearing-in ceremonies. "But having to wait two or three years ... is just ridiculous."

Azhar Sajawal was unable to join the Police Academy in January because his name was placed on hold by the FBI - delaying his swearing-in ceremony for a year. At the time of enrollment, a cadet is required to be a U.S. citizen.

"I passed the NYPD exam, I even passed their background check, eye exam, plus the hearing exam and other medical exams," said Sajawal, 26, of Elmhurst, Queens. "I just want to serve this city. I want to be a cop."

Mohammed Nasser, 34, an advertising writer for Citibank, has been afraid to travel for a year now, fearing that he'll be called in for his naturalization ceremony and miss the notice.

"I want to know that my papers are okay and they're being looked at," said Nasser, who lives in Astoria, and hails from Egypt.

Last month, the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee launched a national legal campaign to get the government to resolve hundreds of cases. More than 40 lawyers filed lawsuits in federal courts, requesting that a judge step in and force U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services to complete the stalled naturalization cases.

In response, CIS decided it will stop interviewing people whose FBI background checks have not cleared.

Bill Carter, an FBI spokesman, said the delays began in 2002, when CIS booted 2.7 million names of applicants back to the FBI for additional checks, causing a backlog.

"It's a very complicated process - it involves dozens of agencies and often foreign governments," said Carter, adding that only 1% of citizenship applicants have had to wait more than the 120 days.

Mohammed Razvi, the executive director of the Brooklyn-based Council of Peoples Organization, said he is working with more than two dozen men who don't know what else to do to finalize their citizenship cases.

"These are people who did everything that they were asked to do," Razvi said. "We're holding back our new citizens."

Man is a wonderful creature; he sees through the layers of fat (eyes), hears through a bone (ears) and speaks through a lump of flesh (tongue).

I would like to contribute to the discussion about women and their careers. I am a muslim male from Pakistan. Islam does not prohibit women from pursuing a career and does not say that women should be just house wives. Women can pursue a career if it does not affect their responsibility towards their home and family. I know many Pakistani women with careers who took a break for sometime after having kids and went back to work after their kids started going to school. Islam does not confine women to just delivering babies, breastfeeding cooking and cleaning.

In Pakistan this is a common male view that women should not work outside the house. It has more to do with the culture than religion. Prophet Muhammad's (peace be upon him) first wife Khadiza was a very successful businesswoman of that time. It should open the minds of narrow minded Pakistani men.

Thank you very much Mr. Open Mind from Ohio. In whole our conversation I didn’t write my Ideology. All I wrote is the fact it is not a culture. There are tons of Islamic forums available on web to discuss these issues. It is not an open mind or narrow mind thing. This is about how you want to spend you life. I don’t know what religion you follow but if you know the history of islam then remember that Hazrat Khadija a.s. Used to do business when Rasool Allah didn’t start the movement of Islam. If you are really knowledgeable and open mind person as you describe then please bring any witness of her business after the mission of Allah's prophet has completed or even after her marriage with Prophet of Allah.

By the time Bibi Khadija (a.s) got married, she was quite a wealthy lady, so wealthy that she felt no need to keep trading and increasing her wealth; instead, she decided to retire and enjoy a comfortable life with her husband who, on his part, preferred an ascetic life to that of money making. The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) had no desire to accumulate wealth; that was not the purpose for which he, peace and blessings of Allah upon him and his progeny, was created. He was created to be savior of mankind from the darkness of ignorance, idol worship, polytheism, misery, poverty, injustice, oppression, and immorality.

Hey, can you guys help me figure this out?

Muslims Watch as the War on Hijab (Head Scarf) Continues in Europe

=====================================================================

BERLIN - Germany’s most populous state, North-Rhine Westphalia, on Wednesday issued a ban on teachers in public schools wearing the Muslim headscarf.

It is the eighth of the country’s 16 regional states to adopt the controversial measure.

A law banning the Islamic headscarf was adopted by the regional parliament of the western state where the conservative Christian Democrats hold a majority.

The Greens and the Social Democrats voted against it.

The Central Council of Muslims in Germany said the new law was unconstitutional because it does not treat all religions as equal, banning only the headscarf and not the Christian cross or any other religious symbols.

Germany, the home to the world’s biggest Turkish community outside Turkey, saw a heated debate about whether headscarves should be banned in schools in 2003 when such a law was proposed in France. It was adopted by the French parliament in 2004.

The German constitutional court ruled at the time that it was up to each state to write its own laws on the matter.

Man is a wonderful creature; he sees through the layers of fat (eyes), hears through a bone (ears) and speaks through a lump of flesh (tongue).

But what if we wanna work just cause it makes us feel good? I am in the social service field because I want to contribute to others and it's something I love to do. Hubby pays most of the bills, I pay for the extras that we really could do without. My work is something that I look forward to and not for monetary reasons.

How about volunteer work. Ladies can involve in Islamic centers women committees and utilize their productive hours serving the community and the nation.

I can certainly realate to that..

you guys " narrow minded " men. are afraid of us ladies making more money than you!! hence the volunteer ####### you sputter! infact, its harder to be a stay at home than to be in the work force. I think you men got it backwards. its not easy being a mom at home. however for sanity from your whining and the kids whining we need a break called " go to work " think of it

back to the baby issue - not all ladies can have a baby! just like not all men can produce one! so marriage is certainly not for pro creation. its for companionship.

But what if we wanna work just cause it makes us feel good? I am in the social service field because I want

 I certainly would not volunteer - when I have a career. its that career that will allow my husband

to see his family. thats why I work for the airlines. I really dont think my husband wanna pee pee in his corn flakes- by telling me not to work :luv:
