I posted this in the other ISL forum as well...

I had a potential k-1 applicant (afghan female who will be going through ISL) ask me a legal question re: a fiance/spouse immigrating here... a quick review of the law leads me to believe there is nothing that specifically addresses this but I figured I would ask here as well since there are many immig experts here on VJ and someone may know the answer... if someone illegally entered and was deported twice from a third country - would this result in a visa denial or require a waiver? Has anyone heard of a denial for such a reason? Or the need for a waiver? I was also suggesting to her to go over and get married and do a marriage visa rather than a K-1 considering it takes so long to get a K-1 processed (I'm going on over a year now), she might as well do that to avoid having to go through AOS here... what do you all think?

Omid you are saying this lady is going to marry someone that was deported from say UK? If so the waivers would not apply since he is not immigrating to that country if I am understanding you correctly. I have not heard of a denial but it will show up on his police reports from where he was deported. My concerns if he did get approved that he would have long AR/AP since he has something in the past to investigate whereas our fiance/hubbies are on AR/AP with clear records. This is just my take on what you wrote and I think this couple no matter what visa they apply for will have a long road ahead of them.

Yeah i'm thinking the same thing which is why I think the marriage route would be best b/c if she has to go through this entire process then she might as well get that ... if i could go back in time I would have gotten married and then applied - it would have taken just as long but I'd be walking away with a green card rather than a non immigrant visa ...

I think she said he was deported from Austria - had applied for political asylum and was denied, then reentered illegally and was deported - other than that no criminal activity ... I couldn't find anything that specifically says illegal entry into another country would be cause for a denial - only illegal entry into the US.

Good Morning Everyone!

I hope you had a good weekend. Inshaallah you get good news this week from the DOS and Embassy!!

Nas had his Bio taken Saturday in Denver for his EAD - we had to go to the Application Support Center on Colfax, not the actual Immigration office. Pretty easy, we were in and out in under an hour. Everyone was really nice.

Advice to those still in Pakistan - get your vaccinations completed there! Nas did not bring any of his personal medical records (besides the Visa Packet left at DIA immigration). We spent over $200 on shots (I-693 Supp) so that we could mail the AOS a week ago. OUCH.

Anyway,, hang in there.. your SO will be here before you know it!.

This is pretty cool . Just enter your zip code in the site below, and it tells you which gas stations have the cheapest prices (and the highest) on gas in your zip code area. It's updated every evening.

As many of you know Brother BBR who was on AR/AP for 7 months just got his greencard and is coming to his wife Eva within the month is a very nice and spiritual man. He went to Mecca after his card arrived and prayed for all of us that are on AR/AP. Last night he posted in another forum his wife here in the states was rushed to the hopital vomiting up blood. I am asking all of you to please remember this family in your prayers. (F)

Mary,

Inshallah she will be all right but I would to correct few things here about 'MAKKAH'.

The holiest city for the Muslims is Makkah-tul-Mukarramah. It is not "Mecca". Saudi Arabia had officially changed the spelling of the name of this city to "Makkah" a few years ago after realizing the derogatory usage of the word by the Western media and Western authors. And that is the way it should be. We do not like it if our own name is misspelled or mispronounced. How can we then allow it when the same is done to any of our most important icons?

Unfortunately many people, even some Muslims are still careless about it. It is increasingly being observed with a degree of concern that all kinds of businesses are (mis-)using the name "Mecca". "Motor-Mecca", "The Mecca Group", etc. It should be respectfully pointed out to such persons that the usage of the word "Mecca" to name their businesses is offensive. A billion and a half Muslims the world over, hold this holy city in the highest regard and veneration. To desecrate the name of this holy city by abusing it in this fashion is not acceptable.

Recently, The British Rank Corporation, which owns a chain of gambling and entertainment shops under the name of "Mecca", removed the name from its shop fronts as a result of protests from British Muslims. Muslims of Luton in the UK had protested against the defamatory use of the name of this holy city.

In most cases it is done out of ignorance, not deliberately. If pointed out politely but firmly, most companies respond favorably by changing the name.

Muslims should also be encouraged to adopt the proper spelling of Makkah, rather than the old, incorrect "mecca" version. Madinah should rather be spelled as Madinah than being spelled as "medina". Principals and educators of educational institutions such as Madrasahs, Islamic Schools, academies, Muslim writers, authors, researchers, scholars are to be encouraged to use the correct spelling.

Muslims have a duty to be vigilant and decisive in acting against anything that may be deemed sacrilegious, blasphemous or disrespectful to Islam or Muslims, all over the world. Every town, city, province, country should have a dedicated and committed group of people to fulfil this important "watch-dog" role for the sake of the Ummah and Islam.

Man is a wonderful creature; he sees through the layers of fat (eyes), hears through a bone (ears) and speaks through a lump of flesh (tongue).
