I wish I could use Xoom because I've heard very good things about it but it's not available in Colorado.

We currently use Afex and the money is wired to our family's bank account in Colombia within 15 minutes.

Colorado has the internet. I know because I go to Colorado sometimes. (Usually involuntarily) One can only use xoom.com through the internet. The last time I used xoom.com to send some money, I got the confirmation it was in VN within 10 minutes and the payee could retrieve it at anytime.

After you select a payment method, Xoom will either collect your bank account information (for the eCheck payment method), your credit card information, or guide you to PayPal. Please note that Xoom cannot accept eCheck payments from senders in the following U.S. states: Colorado, Vermont, West Virginia, Wyoming. Interesting. They've done something that got them banned from doing business there. I'd be real careful using them.

This is even better:

b. Not Available to Certain Residents. The Service may not be available in whole or in part in different states, countries, and jurisdictions. In particular, you may not use the Service if you are a resident of Colorado.

I can't find out why though. My Google-Foo isn't coming up with anything.

I am using XE.com for the first time and so far so good. The account setup is pretty thorough, which gave me more confident in the system. Now that I have an account setup and link to one of my checking account, I can transfer at will at the cost of $20/transaction, not sure about small transfer.

I love the fact that they are 24/7 via phone and quick email. And the conversion rate quoted at the time of order will be honor throughout the transfer process until destination.

For me is the opposite, I have a card from my home country that mom makes me use when she wants me to mail something or if she's insisting on giving me stuff for birthdays's etc. If I had to send money back home I'd probably do the same, card to get money on ATM, the $3-4 dollar fee is a lot better than using services likes WU and Moneygram.

I opened up a savings account attached to my other accounts which came with an ATM card. I gave the card to Claudeth and she would use it to get money, lots of money  Now her parents have it and use it regularly, at least whenever I put money in the account. It only costs $1.50 per withdrawl so is much cheaper than Western Union.

I sent Leidys $110.00 last night via Western Union. The fee was $7.99. Exchange rate $ = 2527.91000 COP (Pesos Colombianos). Money Gram costs $9.99. $2 savings plus a better exchange rate? I'm sticking with Western Union.

Western Union sucks in Morocco. Money Gram works like a charm. However, we stopped using both years ago and went with an ATM debit card, which is much cheaper, more reliable and provides greater convenience than either.
