Most Americans would make a big scene in the store if an employee treated a customer like that. She should have raised her voice and asked the guy to repeat himself. Make sure it draws a small crowd. That may not be the Pinay way but it is the American way.

The alternative is to bring the spouse and have him deal with the loudmouth. He can ignore talking but he can't ignore a punch.

You think punching the guy would have been appropriate? :blink:

no. i think a brutal beatdown would have been more appropriate.

I know you're partially joking but I find it odd that some here think matching a verbal assault with a physical assault is appropriate, but suing them for slander is overkill. Perhaps this is the Hollywoodization of real life situations? :unsure:

Also, there's a good chance that most of us Fil/Am couples will be subjected to similar slander in our lives. I wonder how many here have thought about how they will handle themselves in a situation where your wife is discriminated against by a store employee because of her ethnicity?

No excuse for that sort of public display. The employee wouldn't have dared if the company had an established, responsible sensitivity policy in place - and employees knew that violations would not be tolerated.

I think I'm going to barf. Feelings nothing more than feelings. LOL

Barf away, this is very bad business. If you teach employees (especially those who like to make juvenile comments like you just did) that offending customers chases them and others away, you can prevent those incidents. And of course, screening and not hiring the occasional big baby that can't control what comes out of his pie-hole.

You fire the guy for being an @ss. End of story. You don't need lawsuits and subject the rest of the employees to touchy feely training. I was barfing at the concept of sensitivity training. I have had it up to here with sensitivity and diversity in the workplace. When did people become such pussies. I can see the people building the railroads and one of them going to the supervisor and saying "George just made an inappropriate comment." LOL

I am not saying it is ok to be a doormat to be walked on and i'm not saying do nothing about it... One thing is make a complaint with corporate and vote not to send your money to that establishment.. She can tell her friends not to spend their money there...

But, I find it alarming these days that more and more people will sue or litigate every small issue that comes to them..... I don't beleive what this jerk says rises to this type of attention its ludicrous.... Next thing you know if I were to say something to somebody and they don't like what they hear i would be sued... That is what i am protesting... Rosa parks protested an exstablished racist society at the time.... Ms Richards is not.... That is not the case in this situation but an isolated case... I see this issue as a slippery slope Just cause u hear something you don't like or that is offensive does that give you the right to run to a lawyer or government agency as fast as you can? No.. I beleive this infringes on first amendment speech. More and more everyday our words or regulated and legislated... everyday our freedom of speech is restricted and constricted everyday we have to worry more and more what everybody else thinks. worry if they are OFFENDED... If there is real damage e.g. loss of job, major psychological trauma, threats or hate crimes, something which the damage is "MATERIAL" in nature yea that rises to the bar of litigation... I cannot see how what happened to Ms Richards rises to that level.... You have one side I am just trying to point out the other side..... I do fear that one day we can't say what we think cuz we are too afraid of everyone else might think.. WE HAVE THE FREEDOM TO SAY SMART THINGS OR STUPID THINGS what this guy deserves is a punch in the mouth....... :wacko: enough of my babling I am waiting for everyone else's dissenting opinion to mine :D

So FREEDOM of SPEECH is freedom to say derogatory comments to other human being as you please?

So being FREE in america is being FREE to discriminate other people because of their race and gender?

So PHYSICAL ASSAULT is WAY BETTER than taking the matter to court?

WOW! :wacko::blink::wacko::blink:

I hear you, but I was talking about protecting the business. Touchy feely training is seen in many workplaces as a punishment, but it does force managers in particular to police their employees better. Firing the guy in this story is shutting the barn door after the horses have run out. It is too late. No company wants to be the object of lawsuits or lose customers because of that sort of nastiniess.

As eross222 told quoting my comment, I sent a message at the link he gave and got an answer this morning from H&M:

Hello.

Thank you for contacting H&M regarding the alleged incident of

harassment in our Michigan Avenue store.

Please be assured that H&M took these allegations very seriously.

All measures necessary were taken to conduct an objective and thorough

investigation into Ms. Frannie Richard's claim.

H&M prides itself in its diverse culture and its anti-discrimination and

anti-harassment policies. We are a company that cares deeply about the

quality of our products, our customers and employees and our reputation.

We will not tolerate any conduct that breaches this commitment.

Regards,

H&M Customer Service

No one is better than the others. I think that guy who insulted Ms. Richards is maleducated. How about remarks to him like that? Don't judge if you don't want to be judged! I hope he will learn his lesson and learned how to respect people. H&M should not tolerate their employees, customers are those who bring them bucks and should they be protecting!

Tell them how you feel....at their corporate web site;

http://www.hm.com/us/abouthmcom/contact__c...eresponsibility

I did and pasted the link with the article......

I am sure it will fun in that Chicago store...once they receive enough complaints.

:rolleyes:

a lawsuit is stupid. if it was ever settled, keep in mind its a he said she said deal. 1 the clown gets fired...WOW! bettin he already has been fired once management was alerted of his actions. 2 the lady that was insulted gets to relive it daily until the judge declares there is not enough evidence to render a judgement....win for the lil jerk!

punching the guy in the face....is a natural reaction for many when our loved ones are attacked. call it being a man if you like. i call it being human.

calling people a pussie on a message board.....is well being a ......... :P
