Highway crashes kill more than 41,000 in 2007

Traffic deaths in the United States declined last year, reaching the lowest level in more than a decade.

Some 41,059 people were killed in highway crashes, down by more than 1,000 from 2006.

The fatality rate of 1.37 deaths for every 100 million miles traveled in 2007 was the lowest on record, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said in its report Thursday.

NJ tried that back in the 80s. The result was a flight of insurance carriers out of the state. I hope they think it through.

For now all I think they've done is require an analysis of how we expect changing gas prices to affect our profits. I'm not sure how much they will scrutinize such an analysis.

Let's hope that they don't go further than that, because you're right about the potential repercussions.

I was just thinking that perhaps the people are becoming more aware and concious about their driving skills.
