I would never recommend the injection because it stays in your body for three months and if you have a bad reaction to them you can't get it out or stop it the next day like the pill. Also several of my friends have had the injection and I've only seen bad things happen with their bodies like bleeding for 6 months straight with sometimes black blood, and extreme mood swings and crying.

I would also never recommend implants. They are on the expensive side and sometimes the muscle can grow around them and it is very painful to remove them.

I have the paraguard IUD...copper, no hormones....good for 10 years. LOVE it......no fuss, no mess, no pills and when I had my daughter I got pregnant one month after having it removed. I really like it.

I know a few girls who tried the shots- it just messed them up. Not something I would recommend to anyone either.

"It actually DOES matter when you take your birth control pills. Most birth control information sheets are attached to what the pills actually come in, and most all of them will tell you that you must take the pill at the SAME time EVERY day. The reason is that when you take your pill you are then putting the hormones in your body that prevent pregnancy. When you take the pill that day the levels of those hormones start out consistant and if you take your pill the same time everyday then there are no ups and downs of those hormone levels. If you forget to take your pill one day or wait past your usual time by even a few hours, those hormone levels will drop and could potentially cause you to ovulate (release an egg)which in turn if you decide to have sexual intercourse during that time you could become pregnant. Even if you forget to take it and remember a couple of hours later or even many hours later, you should still continue to take it. Just make sure that you are very careful when you have sex and keep in mind that by forgetting to take them at a set time or forgetting to take them at all, you are putting yourself at risk for pregnancy. Remember that the best advice will come from the inserts in your pill packets, do what they say and you should be fine." http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Do_you_have_to_t..._amount_of_time

I can say from EXPERIENCE.... waiting a 1/2 a day.. (forgetting) can cause enough flux that you can indeed get pregnant... that is how I got Pregnant when I was 18 with my eldest daughter. .augh...

and... please. note.. there are indeed serious complications connected with Birthcontrol...

Three years ago I almost lost that same daughter... due to her taking Depo.shots.. after being on oral b/c for 5+ years.. .. she DEVELOPED A BLOOD CLOT...

she was hospitalized.. they ran many tests... to determine why she developed a blood clot.. only thing that was reason.. was the Birthcontrol ...

She had a blood clot from her knee to her bellybutton.. .. she was on Cumadin for about 2 years.. .. finally been taken off that. thank god.. she was told that she did have a pulmonary emboli when it first happened... but they got it in time.. No One knows why her body responded to bc like this... .. every body has different responses to everyform of medications...

so ..

Please.. everyone.. dont take using B/C lightly.. .. everyperson has different experiences... for one.. a drug may be fine.. for another.. it could kill... so... just cause you think.. it may only .. prevent.. pregnancy.. .. it in fact could cause more...

be careful

I need to look into what Kiki mentioned and I am curious to hear what she says if she answers the question someone asked above, I cannot take any form of contraceptives that has anything in it so right now it is good old condoms for us...Unfortunately I am one of those rare cases where the pill almost killed me 8 years ago, it caused an auto immune reaction in my body, but I do not want to scare the OP...it is a very rare case scenario although it happens.

Also wanted to add that my hubby's cousin was on the shot and got tons of side effects, most eveident one...she gained over 50 pounds!! But that might have been extreme too.

Thanks for sharing - I'm interested in that. I don't want Mirena as I'd like to go off all hormones.

I take Yasmin 28 and have no side effects at all. The only problem is if you don't have insurance it's about $70/month

I was on the mini-pill at first but I didn't like the irregularity of periods while I was on that. My doctor had no problems giving me a different type to try.

I HATE it. You also have to be really careful about taking it at the same time every day. I had to switch to it because the regular pills were giving me high blood pressure apparently. I'd like to look into another option though...

I usually take it within the same few hours, usually between 8 and 11.... or do you need to take them at the exact same time every day ?

My doc told me I only have a half hour window, if I miss it then I have to use backup contraception for 72 hours.

 well sh*t I just take it whenever I wake up or remember that day. I just asked my mom and she said "eh no biggie" and then got off the phone with me.

Life is a ticket to the greatest show on earth.

When I was on a regular, low-dose estrogen pill she told me it didn't matter much at all what time I took it. I never had any problems. It was only when I switched to mini-pill that she expressed concern about exact timing. I don't know enough about the differences between the two to understand why, but I do know that the strictness about taking the mini-pill isn't the only thing I dislike about it. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

I've heard good things about the NuvaRing - I might look into that.

Yeah, the mini-pill only has progestin in it so it doesn't really stop you from ovulating -- it does other things...I think it increases cervical mucus or something like that.

My sil got pregnant TWICE while on the NuvaRing. I don't trust it.

Here is an excellent play by play about how the IUD is inserted and what to expect. Read all the way through as it has 10 subsections.

I use Logest (manufacturer Schering). No side-effects at all, no gain of weight, no mood swings. Costs around $12 per pack in my country(and I stock up there), not sure about here.

The IUD copper is only given to women who are not planning on having children in less than 5 years. So Mirena is your best option if you're interested. The hormone levels are so low it's ridiculous and the effectiveness of it is just as high as the pill if not higher.

The only drawback, the cramps during the first few weeks while your body gets used to it. OMG  I'm pretty tolerant to pain but they're just insane. Nothing a couple of Advil can take care of though. The other good thing about it is that periods are a lot lighter and some women have reported not having any periods at all after a while.

Hi - I'm a member of the pull-n-pray team. So far 2 years and no baby!

Yasmin works ok, but does decrease sex drive. Most of the b/c pills do. And the weight gain is water retention, so once you get off, most of it should come off.

Nuvaring is bogus. First of all since its localized, eventually it may be pulled off the market just like the patch was... too much hormones in one space i guess? Second, how is that ring supposed to stay in place with all that action going on?

We've only recently lost our virginities... .. before that, it was never an issue.

Guess I'm going to have to start looking into contraceptives as it's not in our plans to have a baby for a few years! (Well, HE says "at least a few years" but I'm OK with it if it happens earlier... hehe)

I'm skeptical about taking the oral contraceptive because I know I'd get lazy with taking it everday seeing as we're hardly ever together in person. On the other hand, I get crappy periods so it will help with that. At the moment, I think we'll go with condoms until I've researched more about the pill.

I sometimes take a hormone pill that is for heavy periods and pains... it can also be used to stop your period but it's NOT a contraceptive. Some people might be familiar with it. It's pretty cool, though it does come with side effects.

Tell your man to just wear a condom. If he (understandably) whines about the lack of sensation, tell him to go bareback with a hooker once a week.

That was not an option for us.. I do not want my husband to suffer and mostly, I wouldn't want him to go with a hooker.. Thanks anyway...

Relax, I was just kidding.

Oh, and I'm not really a spambot either :P

My wife is on Yasmin. I am not aware of any side effects.

haha, I don't think she's gotten use to OT yet. It takes a while for folks to understand just what in the world is going on here.
