........or I can always blame my weight gain on them

That's what my wife did, but our doctor disagreed - said it was her new sedentary suburban lifestyle.

Sucks :P I want all the chocolates and icecreams and all those greasy food and still blame it all on pills

Remember that you're not always stuck with the first prescription you get, there are all kinds of birth control pills out there so if you don't feel comfortable with one, ask your doctor to switch it.

What I've seen is that a lot of them have a larger dose of hormones, yes even the "low dose" ones and with that, you can pretty much kiss your sex life good bye.

I have read about the change is sexual drive as one of the side effects. Can anybody explain this to me? Does that mean you will crave for sex or you will not be interested to have sex?

One word: IUD.

Why? Because it stays put for 5 years and you do not need remember to take anything

That sure isn't an option for me, because I don't want to wait for 5 years to have a baby, may be another couple of years or who knows sometimes my baby making self aches to have a cuddly wuddly wush around :innocent:

It can cause issues if you do eventually plan to have kids.

There are hormonal implants that can work if you have trouble remembering to take a pill. However, getting the implant can run about $1000.

I don't think so; and so does taking the pill for long periods of time. And if you decide in whichever time that you are ready to get pregnant; you have it removed and you're good to go.

I was on the mini-pill at first but I didn't like the irregularity of periods while I was on that. My doctor had no problems giving me a different type to try.

I HATE it. You also have to be really careful about taking it at the same time every day. I had to switch to it because the regular pills were giving me high blood pressure apparently. I'd like to look into another option though...

I usually take it within the same few hours, usually between 8 and 11.... or do you need to take them at the exact same time every day ?

My doc told me I only have a half hour window, if I miss it then I have to use backup contraception for 72 hours.

Crazy. Mine went over a couple of studies with me (yes, I ask for this sort of information) and it seems that there's a stronger correlation between weight & pill efficacy. As in, the more you weigh, the more likely the pill is to fail. Factoring out weight, there seems to be a three-hour window which is "prime" for taking the pill. But it also depends on what kind of pill you take...

How you respond to hormonal contraception (pills, injections, etc.) is highly individual. Almost everyone has some side effects for the first few months.

I've always hated the pill, and I've tried several in my time (dontchaknow), ultra-low dose, blah blah. While the regular periods and mild cramps were a plus, after most of the side effects had gone away, I was left will a libido that was a shell of its former self. The pill also decreased my alcohol tolerance (not in terms of getting drunk quicker, but in terms of after-affects). Eff that! Because I like both drinking heavily and having a sex drive, I gave up on the pill. But I know plenty of people who have been on the pill for years and report no problems.

Diaphragm, rubbers, pull 'n' pray--the great nonhormonal triad.

5 yeas is all an IUD can be in for. If you want to have a baby sooner, you can just have the IUD removed. Same goes for the hormonal implants which are good for 2-3 years.
