...getting back to the OP - is there anyone here who is openly defending Fox News for interviewing Mr. Fromm as an expert of free speech, given the man's background? Seriously... and who gives a flying f##k if it's CNN, CBN, or Fox. There's never a shortage of criticism aimed at other news organization over a myriad of issues and nobody calls them CNN haters...geezuz some people need to get a grip.

It does make you wonder whether this was to do with sloppy research or some sort of deliberate design.

Hard to say and I'm in agreement with you that news media is primarily corporate vs. some kind of political agenda machine...although with Fox News, there has been substantial evidence that it is both. In any case, regardless of what news source it is, they need to held up to public scrutiny based on standards of journalistic integrity.

As I said - I think this has to do with people taking ownership of and defending a corporate brand. It has absolutely nothing to do with the quality of the journalism.

As pointed out - Fox News has the biggest audience share, therefore its the biggest and most obvious target for criticism. Though many of the same criticisms apply to the other networks.

I watch Fox myself from time to time - but I do sometimes feel as if I'm watching "Christian News".

The biggest problem is that they blur commentary and traditional news reporting. Remember that story from a couple of weeks ago about the two USCs gunned down in the San Francisco area by an El Salvadoran (I think) illegal immigrant - and there was all that renewed fuss over so-called "Sanctuary Laws" - Fox was all over that.

That story featured prominently on every single news programme they ran that evening. Greta Van Susteran even had the bereaved wife/mother on her show for an interview - and asked all sorts of leading questions, basically telling her who to blame.

It was quite startling...

If a reporter interviews an extremist on the limits on free speech that doesn't mean Fox News endorses extremism. It's part of the story. CNN must be a a bastion of Islamic hate groups since they interview them, too. The only thing they should say is the guy advocates free speech but he's got some unpleasant stuff to say on some groups.

This line of reasoning is kind of funny considering a fellow VJ poster featured masked guys slashing throats and you wanted to know more about his childhood!

Try reading a few posts to see which single news outlet gets the most hate e-mail. Heck, this entire thread is aimed at one organization and it's no accident. I'm less worried about a single interview with a Canadian extremist than the extremists in Congress bent of crushing the 1st Amendment with the "Fairness Doctrine".

This guy's not a free speech advocate. That's like saying the ACLU is run by the KKK since among many groups, the ACLU has defended free speech. If they wanted an expert opinion to weigh in on the issue of free speech, they should be interviewing an actual free speech advocate, and David Duke wannabes don't qualify as such no matter what you want to call them.

I would agree with that - but it still reflects the simplicity of the journalism. Can that man honestly be called an expert on "free speech"? What does that even mean? Or were they (as I suspect) simply looking for someone to fit the bill?

This line of reasoning is kind of funny considering a fellow VJ poster featured masked guys slashing throats and you wanted to know more about his childhood!

Yeah those videos went a bit beyond acceptable taste and decency. Childhood traumas might explain that kind of attitude, but they certainly don't justify it.

Would you say you are an American liberal or not? yes or no.

Warning! the next part will be seen as a tangent / offtopic.

I find it funny I expected that fox would get condemned for interviewing / showing this guy whatever.

Now on a subtopic, Jon Voight recently voiced his conservative views in the open. Look at the freakin response he got from so many libs. Gezz.. The responses to his views just reinforces my belief that freedom of speech in America is no longer about the intended, the original, definition of the Amendment. That is, Freedom of political speech. Freedom to voice political views. But is now about the bastardized version of freedom to do as one pleases. Such as ####### like run around naked while ridiculing the intelligence of someone religious etc. Or freedom of gay members to dress up as the 12 apostles and mock the last super. Yet how dare! Jon Voight have his own political opinion. Who does he think he is.. Does he not realize he is in Hollywood..

This sort of ####### is the reason that America is losing face overseas. Where someone voicing their political views is banished and castrated. Yet someone ridiculing and mocking, for example, the 4 billion people who are religious is cheered on. Which raises to questions. Does freedom of speech apply to all? and should we draw a line in the sand of what is acceptable and what is not, like most other countries have done on topics such as hate?

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Are you confused? The freedom is to be able to promote whatever intelligent of wacky view you can come up with. There is no freedom to be taken seriously.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Certainly the selection of Fromm. to serve in that capacity is a little strange to say the least.
Calling Fromm an expert on free speech is like calling John Gotti an expert on law-enforcement.

Definitely not confused about your level of intelligence. But hey, throw some witty words my way.

You seem to be really good at that.

Quite right, you don't have to take anything I write seriously. Whether you do or you don't is entirely within your hands. I have the freedom to write anything at all - well, in this instance so long as I remain within the TOS. I think you have got it now.
