Hello,

Although we will be getting married and I will eventually be taking his name, I will not have gone to the social security office to officially change my name until after we have applied for the green card. So, as far as filling in my name on the AOS forms, which name do I use? I am assuming that I use my maiden name because my social security card still has that as my name. Am I assuming correctly? Thanks.

Nicole

SSN name has no bearing on your greencard name... If you want to apply for your greencard in your maiden name do so because you want to use it. Changing will cost you $$$$ again in the future. Not applying for your greencard in the name you want to use because of your SSN is not proper thinking

YMMV

I am not the one recieving the green card, he is. I am wondering about the filing of the papers that include my name.

My answer is the same, whatever name you want to use. From the day you get married, his last name is your last name if you decide to take it. Some states (like NY) actually put the "New Surname" right on the marriage certificate.

The AOS forms is the aliens application not the USC's... there is not so much filling in the USC's name on these forms. When needed (I-864) use the maiden name in the other names used and then any evidence with your old name on it can be "bridged"

YMMV

My answer is the same, whatever name you want to use. From the day you get married, you are able to use his last name.
