Hi, I was just wondering if anyone could recommend a cheap and clean place to stay overnight in London? My fiancee is travelling from Scotland for both the medical and interview and will have to stay overnight.

My fiance & I stayed at the Edward Lear hotel.

It's very close to the Embassy and relatively cheap for a hotel a block from Oxford St.

their website is edlear.com

there was another hotel that we found http://www.parkwoodhotel.com/

its cheaper than the ed lear, but was booked solid when we went.

We were just looking to stay as close to the Embassy as possible because neither of us had ever been to London before and were very nervous about getting lost in the tube and whatnot.

We stayed at the Lincoln House Hotel. http://www.lincoln-house-hotel.co.uk/index.html

If you look at their map http://www.lincoln-house-hotel.co.uk/locationmap.html you can see where the Embassy is. Toward the bottom of their map, is a small green park that says Grosvenor Square. You line up by that park. It was a 13 minute casual walk to the Embassy. We weren't walking very fast.

The hotel was very clean and well presented. It's in a safe neighborhood and secure. The front door is locked and they have CCTV at the entrance. The rooms were small and the bathroom smaller. Free wireless internet, tea, fridge in room. Free computer/internet in the lobby. They held the luggage all day while we went to the Embassy and Buckingham palace. No elevator and our room was on the top floor. We had continental breakfast and it was good. Got a discount for paying cash in GBP.

It's also probably 5 minutes walk to the Knightsbridge doctors if she's doing medical at the same time.

We liked it.

I stayed at Holiday Inn Express at Wimbledon South I paid 60 UK pounds I think for night. The hotel is opposite a tube station for easy access to London. Staff very friendly and plenty of shops and stores near hotel. Staff will even order Pizza for you.
