Ooh, that's a museum I haven't been to - I have to put that on my list.

Oh my gosh...you've got to go. There are botannicals gardens nearby as well. It's in Pasadena, so it's a bit of drive from Laguna Beach.

Are you blind Alien?

Yeah, I navigate with a series of "eeks" that bounce off solid objects. I guess that makes me Batman to your Joker.

For the benefit of you sighted folks I used the words: observation, looked, second look, normal looking and eyes. Must have missed those, huh?

So, how do you account for this statement:

"Brilliant observation on your part. Too bad nobody else could find any flaws with the study. They bought it hook, line and sinker."

Did you not read any of the other posts simply assumed what they might contain?

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

It's a very interesting piece. I don't go along with it to all the conclusions, but certainly I can see the dangers of projecting images that are impossible to recreate in real life, and a preponderance of images that show the best face of the female form as the only acceptable or desirable face of the female form.

Now I get the blind part. I usually don't read Purple's posts out of habit. You get partial credit but since few match the ideal form, we do the best we can so the impact in reality is smaller than the doctor asserts. There was lot more wrong in that article.

Well, without knowing more about the study, I dont' think anyone can completely discredit the findings.

Now, whether you want to read what I write or not is entirely up to you, but I think if you bothered to read any of the posts by the other respondants you would also find that nobody took the piece as 100% gospel.

Yay, that would be fabulous. I love gardens too! A complete day out, thanks S.

Sure. They have a great collection of Degas...and outside, the sculptures of Rodin are pretty amazing.

Fantastic. I will have to find a free weekend and set this up. I may do a meetup with some of my gardening/hiking buddies too. Cool.

Well, without knowing more about the study, I dont' think anyone can completely discredit the findings.

How silly of me to think a professor who teaches on race and gender and publishes in Ms. could possibly have a bias. The article is a joke even without knowing the methodology because the findings contradict simple facts. There no evidence women are suffering in greater numbers from eating disorders than being overweight. Secondly, more women than ever graduate college and make a greater proportion of most campuses. Don't these widely acknowledged realities blow away a class of girls in swimsuits taking a math test? Is this representative of the level of scholarship in California universities now? Arizona State, ok, maybe?

Now, whether you want to read what I write or not is entirely up to you, but I think if you bothered to read any of the posts by the other respondants you would also find that nobody took the piece as 100% gospel.

There weren't too many memorable posts that challenged the premise of the article either. There's the one-liners but that's about it.

Where is the controversial statement in the OP? Isn't it kind of obvious that the images seen in the media will affect people's perception of themselves and others? Men aren't immune to it either.
