My wife just got hers done today and will pick up the results tomorrow.

Vaccination

Current cost: $200,000VD, but she said it varied for some people (she thought maybe it had something to do with which country one is going to and the type of requirements).

She got two shots.

Eating is okay.

The wait for the receipt is about an hour.

They require the appointment letter but do not ask to have a copy; they returned it to my wife.

She did her vaccination yesterday. You need their receipt to do the medical. It's probably possible to do both in one day, but the odds are not good. It's a big hassle to wait around, etc.

Cho Ray Medical Exam

Current cost: $100USD or Vietnam Dong equivalent. My wife used USD.

No eating before the exam.

They gave her a hard time and asked for the original appointment letter. I scanned and e-mailed my letter for her to print out. However, her printer wasn't too good, so they recognized it as a printout and demanded the original letter. After some coaxing, it was accepted. They do require one copy, in addition to the original. As for my wife's letter, it hasn't gotten there yet.

It was a male doctor and my wife was quite embarrassed. She couldn't request a female doctor.

She said the doctor was able to pull her file up on the computer (I guess from the consulate's network?) and interviewed her. The person who went before her had all sorts of questions asked for a total of about an hour -the person had problems with matching the answers on file and got some harsh words from the doctor. Luckily, my wife had to answer for only about ten minutes. The questions were the normal stuff, such as birth dates, how we met, what I did for a living, etc.

Warning: if your spouse is thin or underweight (mine is very thin), she/he will get an extra tough examination. The doctor was determined to find out why my wife was so thin (my wife is just a finicky eater!). It took her almost the whole day; she had to come back after their lunch break (11:00-1:00). Also, don't even think about doing your medical exam if you've got a cold. You're just asking for a delay.

Actually, we wanted to be sure and so I had asked my wife to get a thorough medical a few weeks prior to make sure that everything was fine. She's in perfect health. She finally told the doctor that she just has a medical and that helped to ease his mind.

They gave her a receipt and she will pick up her sealed envelope the day after the exam.

I found that very funny about being extra tough because she is thin. Every VN here in the states and while I was over in VN a couple of months ago I saw that most woman are very thin and it is thier culture to be that way. In fact I was hoping when she comes here that I can get her to bulk up a tad.
