Here is another great site for those of you interested in tropical storms and hurricanes. I check it regularly - it gives regular updates and when there is an event happening it also gives you all of the warnings and updates and graphics from a variety of the locations impacted, so you can get a better idea of why people are worried or why they are not. It is interesting to note the various 'predictions' as well - often there are a lot of variables so things are not really cut and dried.

Our local news just said possibly landfall on the west coast of Florida next week with this tropical system. I assume we are talking about the same system. It's tropical storm Fay.

Our media seems to love when a storm gets close by so they can cover it and get their reporters in the rain coats outside in light breezes, but make it look worse. :lol: It's like they love being outside during the worst parts trying to run in the strong winds, and show those videos showing how you couldn't even walk in it. It cracks me up. Why do they need to be outside?? :P

Anyway, I wonder what's going to happen in the next couple days. We live about 6 miles from the west coast of FL. Well right now it just shows it staying a Tropical Storm even as it gets closer.

Take a large, almost round, rotating sphere about 8000 miles in diameter, surround it with a murky, viscous atmosphere of gases mixed with water vapor, tilt its axis so it wobbles back and forth with respect to a source of heat and light, freeze it at both ends and roast it in the middle, cover most of its surface with liquid that constantly feeds vapor into the atmosphere as the sphere tosses billions of gallons up and down to the rhythmic pulling of a captive satellite and the sun. Then try to predict the conditions of that atmosphere over a small area within a 5 mile radius for a period of one to five days in advance!

I check out this site every day. I LOVE Dr. Jeff Master's blog (left side of page). He speaks in terms I always understand. Plus, he breaks it all down with wind sheers, water temp, dust storms, etc. All of which I really never knew impacted anything until I started reading him a few years ago.

Me too, this is where I get alot of my info..and I pass it along to the airline managers around the coast in a 3x weekly email. Its really good stuff!

Looks like Jamaica is out of the woods on this one..moving more towards W. Florida but in SE FL we'll most likely see Tropical Storm force stuff..which means an airport closure for me I guess
