Just wondering if anyone else has had any trouble getting a compliance letter from Chrysler?

I called Chrysler Canada back on July 28th and they gave me a fax # to Chrysler U.S. saying I would have to fax them, giving me all the information I would have to put in the request letter. The rep told me I should get a fax back in 24 to 48 hours. I faxed it the next day and thought I would hear something by the end of the week. The following Tuesday, I went back to work and still hadn't heard anything so I sent the fax again, after a few more days I called Chrysler Canada again and they looked up my VIN and there was a message dated July 29th saying that they received my fax and that my car met U.S. standards and that once they produced the letter they would be faxing it. I called again on Monday and there was no new update. Today, I called again and there was an update saying "If the customer calls back please advise them that due to vacations, they are short staffed and backlogged and will get to the letter when possible" I talked to a supervisor and she said she would send a message to that department saying "the customer is not happy about the delay in receiving the letter" other than that there is nothing else she could do. I told her that was terrible customer service to take over two weeks when I was told 24 to 48 hours, that I worked in Customer Service and if we told a customer that....YIKES....not a good thing! Will see how long it takes now, I will be calling back again on Monday if I still don't hear anything. In typical Call Centre fashion, she asked if there was anything else she could do for me...."I said no, I just need my letter!"

In the meantime, I have to wait until I get that letter before I can import my car then get it registered and insured in Washington. I know, I should have started the process months ago when I first read about compliance letters on here VJ!

That was my vent....I feel better now....lol!

Probably just bad timing for me then....I am sure it will come soon!

I am sure you will be able to do it at the Chicago airport, one of my former co-workers moved to Seattle and "imported" her vehicle at the Seattle airport

I hope so. I would hate to have to drive back up to Sault St Marie, MI to fill out the forms.

The Rep, probably shouldn't have told you 24 -48 hours in the first place. When they found out they couldn't do it in that timeframe, someone should have called you. That would have been respectful Customer Service. As you said, you should have done this long ago. I'm sure they're not deliberately taking their time. Hope you hear something soon.

:wow: That blows Linda. I've been having a hard time too (from Ford though).

The last excuse from the dealership was - "Did you buy the car here, because if you didn't I'm probably not going to be able to help you." Hmmmmmmmmmmm - well I didn't buy the car from your dealership, but the owner before me did, so I guess you could say the car is from your lot originally.

But on a positive note - the service dept of the dealership was willing to install a new fog lamp for me for $200 (which hubby did in 20 minutes, for $45 and 2 minutes of swearing).

Hi BH. If you go to this link and scroll down to your State it will list the POE's you can go to import your vehicle.

How customer-service oriented. morons. Did you go to a different dealership? I was told by Ford Canada to go to any Ford dealership... so I did. Wasn't a problem.

Hi Linda.

I'm in the same situation trying to get my 1995 dodge caravan from Canada. I went to the US custom here in Seattle and they asked me to call Chrysler asking for the Complaince letter. Do you know the best way to contact them? The Custom officer gave me the 1-519-973-2000 phone number but its almost impossible to communicate with them. I really appreciate your help in this matter or the fax number I can reach them asking for the compliance letter?. Any help is more than welcome

Thanks in advance

Joe

Realize everyone time is very special, but oooodddlllessss of info at this site of VJ:

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I got mine from ford, my car was bought from a used car sales lot! I just went over to the huge ford dealer near where I used to live and went to reception askin about compliance letter for my car she walked me to the back in this really weird office in some sort of ford car sales lot dungeon! The woman in the office took my VIN number, and my klm number and my owner paper thing. Then asked to see my K-1 papers I handed her the copy of the NOA2, then she wanted my insurance papers... Sat there for a half hour while she left the room. She came back typed a few things in the computer and said my car was in compliance accept for day time lights but most cars in the states have that now. told me that I had to pay outside a fee of 140$................ my eyes fell out! and she printed off a copy of my compliance letter and said the original will come in the mail in about a week or two. She walked me to the counter to pay the fee and i left 140$ poorer for a sheet of paper lol.
