Most people aren't aware that ugly folks have this magic thing called a "fist". It is highly useful for when being made fun of, to make that person's face magically uglier than theirs.

Damn, I bet you're ugly :jest: (i am kidding)

Yep, it's amazing what kids can fit in there. Even more amazing when they take whatever it is out and show it to me.

Edit: that sounded slightly pervy...I hope you know what I mean.

;)

It's cool, we're all entitled to get a little freaky every now and then!

Just not where minors are concerned! ;) Actually, yesterday I told a kid to "keep it in your pants." He just stared at me...I was like, "No, the BB gun, the BB gun!"

It is amazing how many of the gangbangers are minors!!!

So I take it general consensus exists that making fun of people for the way they look is not acceptable.

Ok, I can dig it.

But what about making fun of people for being stupid? Or uneducated? Or having a weird accent? Or mispronouncing words?

Or for not being able to spell? Or for living in a certain state? Or for having a particular job?

Are those ok?

If so, why?

Everything has context. I'm sure most of us have looked at someone that we thought was unattractive and thought to ourselves, "Damn! She/he is ugly!" But there's a line that gets crossed somewhere...not sure where that line is though.

Can the person control what they look like? If so, then it's possibly OK. If not, it's not cool. Example: If a woman has a goofy haircut or a unibrow or moustache that some Jolen bleach or tweezers would take care of, it's not so bad to make fun. If she has scars from a car accident or assymetrical features that they can't do a d@mn thing about, the line has been crossed. It's not cool to make fun of 'ugly' people just like it's not cool to make fun of 'minority' people - they (we) don't exactly have a choice in the matter of our color, our basic physical features or accidents/illnesses that we may have that leave us with scars and disabilities.

I totally agree on not openly making fun of people's looks but the reality is, we all look for aesthetic qualities in nature whether it's home furnishings, a car, or even people...and often times the word 'ugly' is used to describe things, like "That car is ugly," or "That couch is hideous!" For better or worse, it seems like human nature has designed us to make value statements about things based on our sight. I don't think we should be so politically correct to not be honest and admit that some people are not pleasant to look at, just as we openly comment someone who is pleasant to look at...whether it's their choice or not.

The difference is, a couch or car doesn't give a sh!t if you think it's ugly, a person generally does. And believe me, if you've been treated as ugly your whole life, you d@mn well know when someone is talking behind your back and laughing at you, regardless of how well you think you're hiding it. And believe me it hurts, 'coz there's nothing you can do about it.

I completely understand it on a personal level, believe me and I'm not defending jackasses who actually would tell somebody to their face that they're ugly. I'm saying that we make aesthetic judgments about other people's looks, even if we keep it to ourselves.

My dad is the same way. I can't have dessert there without my dad wisecracking about it. I deal with it by overdoing dessert at their place.

Then I come home and sit on the toilet for hours.

 sounds so familiar. just insert my stepmom there.

I think the official rule is that you're not allowed to make fun of people for things they can't control. So looks  , but wardrobe

How about for being stupid?

Or fat? Or short? Or for living in Albania?

Or smelling like curry?

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.

I dunno - I have heard some of the worst misogynist conversations in UK pubs. Granted drink often brings out the worst in people - but when you see a rather overweight man with a face not unlike a potato referring to a girl as "a minger" and "not worthy to suck his #######", I tend to think that such people need to be put in their place.

Completely agreed.

I think that if anything being said about their weight their hight there looks their job .........anything that makes a person feel bad or makes the person saying it feel above the other person is just flat wrong........i can not state that i am never guilty for somethings i say or think but in the end i try to do better...........

I've missed a lot but who cares that this shpat person is dressed 'gangsta' or not...he's young, and havin fun.

We all can look back on pics in outfits we thought were cool but were totally :o so I say leave the kid alone.

He offered himself up to be made fun of and the mean ladies of VJ were more than happy to oblige.

I would agree except for the fact that he keeps putting his pic out there for scrutiny. It seems he wants the compliments/criticism/attention.
