Rahma...the no computer part will be so very hard. I can try to cut down but seeing that work requires I be on all day long and at home we contact family overseas...It's been a trial.

I know. It's also freakin addictive!

What are you doing? Just cutting down or will you be offline from now on?

While I greatly respect sh. Hamza, I don't think I"ll be able to follow his advice this month, lol. I'm definately reducing the media all around, but to give it up completely? I've been trying to give up TV for a year, and I'm a complete and utter failure in that department.

Assalamu alaykum and hello :)

I have not been around in some time but I just wanted to drop in and say Ramadan Kareem to everyone. May Allah grant you every success and make the month easy for you, ameen.

Oh, it's Melly btw. Couldn't think of anything better for a name so I just picked Melly 2. :P

I hope everyone is in the best of health and spirits.

It's the 4th of Ramadan ... how is everyone on reading the Qur'aan? So everyone *should* be just finishing up juz 4 ... We are caught up since my husband has been reading for us after Tarawee (sweet guy ... since he knows right now I am not up for it) then having little discussion about what we read! Seding out encouragement to everyone!

My husband tried fasting but the first day back to work after hurricane evacuation he could not take it. He is a welder and it gets very very hot. He has to eat something and most of all have water. I told him before he even went to work that he was going to start feeling sick just like he did last year. Last year he stopped fasting after a day or two. He is not really a practicing muslim in ALOT of ways. But, for sure, he does not eat pork.

It's amazing the difference after the first two days fasting and then having to break it... I'm the same as always, with the same health problems, but somehow I feel like I have so much energy compared to the days of fasting. I haven't felt this good in almost a year!

I'm tempted to try fasting again tomorrow since it's the start of my weekend and see if the same thing happens with my blood levels  I've got to talk it over with my husband tonight, bc I'm not sure if I should just accept it as a blessing and a lesson that even with very little energy it could be worse.

That's so sweat :luv:

I wonder if my husband would be willing to read outloud in arabic for me so I could try to follow along. He does read every night

يَايُّهَا الَّذِينَ ءامَنُوا اسْتَعِينُوا بِالصَّبْرِ وَالصَّلَوةِ اِنَّ اللَّهَ مَعَ الصَّبِرِينَ

You should count it as a blessing and pay to charity. It says somewhere that if u are unable to fast "at all" that u can pay so much to charity or feed the needy to make up for it ...... can someone find that?

Thanks Rahma I will download it when I get home.

Yesterday was my first full day of fasting. I became exhausted by the time we broke fast!

Tonight we are going to the Islamic Society for breaking the fast and Quran Recitation. I am nervous, I have no idea what to wear, nothing to cover my head if we have to. I feel kind of sick worrying about it. I've been there before and not all of the women didn't cover their hair but I wasn't paying attention when they prayed. Still, I'm nervous over this.

With very few exceptions that usually only take place at progressive muslim gatherings, women do cover their head when they pray even if they don't usually cover.

If you don't have a scarf handy, I know the target by me usually has some around. If not, the mosque will most likely keep some on hand for women who forget to bring them along :star:

For other clothes, pants that aren't too tight and a long sleeve shirt that isn't too tight would work just fine. American mosques are usually pretty diverse in dress, so you'll have women wearing a wide variety of clothes. Just so long as you're modestly dressed, no shorts, no skirts that are above the ankle, you should be a-ok

Don't get too nervous over it. You're a newbie, and inshaAllah people will be understanding.
