Thanks sooo much everyone!! I think VJ is hubby's new favorite site - he was so impressed by all the nice responses :)

I think we've got a few ideas of things for him to do...There are a couple driving ranges in town; hopefully he meets some friends to go golfing with there. He's also going to come to work with me tomorrow (I'm a police dispatcher) and do a ride-along with the officers. I think he'd enjoy that and if he makes friends with my cop co-workers, at least I'd know they won't be getting into trouble :) Plus maybe they can take him shooting and so forth. Not a whole lot of volunteering to be done, I think, but I hadn't thought of classes at the Y - also something he might enjoy. He's even talked about helping out for a political party - ironic, considering he can't vote!

Unfortunatly we live in a reeeeally tiny apartment, so there's no fixing-up to be done, but we will be moving in about a month so lately he's been starting to pack things into boxes. I haven't been able to talk him into making a dent in all the cleaning that has to be done, tho...I think that might have to be a group activity or something lol

He was an Armed forces guy, cool! I finished off in the Cdn Air Force as an Airbourne Electronics Sensor Operator (AESop) on the CP 140 Aurora. Did the Army and navy thing as well prior to AESop.

Does he play hockey? Take up refereeing. Maybe not much hockey where u are though.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

He's been in Naval Reserves since he was 16. When we met he was doing base security in B.C. and then transferred to the recruit school at St. Jean, Montreal. He had a lot of interesting stories :)

He doesn't play hockey; but there certainly aren't a lot of places to play it in KY :)

I have a Federal Firearms License 03. Its a collectors one. Let me research my big large ATF book. If nothing else I can help with out with deals in the US. I think its doable though. You have to find a importer and transfer them. I think he might be able to get his FFL 03 and buy them as a dealer himself. Let me check.

That would be soooooo very awesome!! :) We've heard rumors that this is possible, but had no idea how to go about it. The only option seemed to be paying a fortune to antique dealers in Canada to get them appraised and to have his parents bring them down...

In the interim, Kentucky has lots of shooting ranges. Most of them rent various guns to shoot on the range. Not a long term solution, but it may help.
