I went to college in Georgia (UGA). But Ossetia doesn't sound familiar. Must be further south. :jest:

I think steins are a thing of the past. I prefer Ukrainian or Russian beer honestly. Using that as a choice would have blunted the poll humor :hehe:

Ilya is a male name, to whomever called Ilya a "she."

South Ossetia is inside Georgia but have been making it clear since 1992 that they do not want to be inside Georgia. Even way before this offensive, Russia has supported the Ossetians financially and most Ossetians have Russian passports. it is not a coincidence that the region of Russia which borders South Ossetia is called "North Ossetia."

It is not as cut and dry as whether South Ossetia is inside Georgia or not. South Ossetia is inside Georgia, but Ossetians do not consider themselves Georgian. To construct a poll in such a biased way is an insult to intelligence of anyone who wants to consider the full picture of an issue, rather than one biased media-constructed viewpoint.

The war is over, though, so let's leave it at that.

And I don't want to hear the "what if N. Dakota seceded" article again, because North Dakotans are not a people.

I think AJ started the "she" stuff last night - innocently. The poll construction is a response to being called delusional and stupid by several Russian posters for having a well constructed opinion about respect for national borders - and disagreeing with any government's action to unilaterally occupy the territory of another sovereign nation. I don't like it when America does it either - unless there is a UN mandate prior to putting planes in the air, etc. Apparently when Russia behaves this way, it is ok with Ilya, who also says he was a communist party member until 1989. Thank you for acknowledging that Ossetia is within the borders of Georgia. It is difficult to engage in any debate when one side responds ONLY with name calling and subject changes.

The world is full of ethnic minority groups that don't feel a part of the country in which they reside. Changing their passports and armed occupation are not the answer. And I don't want to hear how S. Ossetiains are not Georgian. They are an ethnic minority within the internationally recognized borders of a soveriegn nation. I understand that they don't like it and don't want it, but that is a fact. Borders are changed by international agreement/negotiation, not occupation IMO.

I agree, if they would follow that minority logic, I'm afraid eastern europe would be divided in like 200 countries..

Yeah, we learned from the US. Did you create a similar poll while Kosovo was seceding?

I dont know how to make it any clearer, Once USSR fell apart, they wanted independance too, but from Georgia, They've been on their own for a while, to be exact since 1922. Its not just ethnic group and want on their own. And please stop with the "INTERNATIONALLY RECONGNIZED BORDERS OF SOVEREIGN NATION" Please!

Here is my story. I've lived problem free life, payed my taxes. One day I decided to marry this girl. But to do so would require her to come to US of A, and so it started. My problem free live turned in to free problems from USCIS! Sure things turned to unsure, certain dates turned to aproximation within months. All logical thinking was out the door, as I filed my papers withing famous Vermont Centre!
