Hi, we wanted to file today but I wanted to find something out regarding tax returns and W2s.

Do you really need to send W2s?

My wife and I have lived at 3 different addresses since I moved here. My wife's W2 from 2006 has address number 1 on it. Mine have address number 2.

My wife's W2 for 2007 has address number 2 on it. Mine has address number 3.

I noticed this today and it is frustrating. It is as if my employer's updated their files when we moved and my wife's did not.

Do we really need to send the W2s or are the joint tax returns enough? I just don't want to have any issues from our W2s having different addresses on them.

Thanks.

I think W2s are not required, although we did send ours just in case (and ours did have the same address so we thought it might help our evidence).

We also ended up ordering tax transcripts from the IRS rather than just sending photocopies of the returns. I think if you go with the official transcripts they might be even less likely to need W2s accompanying them.

I know the W-2's were required for any kind of copied tax returns up to this point. I just copied them and sent them again for the heck of it.

For the removing of conditions, it is more of a proof of continued being together. I don't think you really need to send them this time. My belief though is if in doubt, do it anyhow. Whatever you feel confident doing, I would do.

As long as you have lots of other proof, you should be fine.

I am going to say this, though.....if you moved around a bunch in those 2 years and you are listing those addresses on the form, it might be a good idea to prove the 2 of you moved around together by using those W-2's.

You do not need W-2's with the transcripts.

When we ordered transcripts, they arrived within a week, so you still have time to order transcripts if you are not set on mailing your application right away. But photocopies should be fine if you don't have time for the transcripts.

I used tax transcripts, and received them the same day I called the IRS via a fax machine.

Tax transcripts are the prefered proof, and VERY EASY to obtain!!!
