hey folks,

my fiance is currently deployed in iraq for 4 months and we decided that we wanna start the k1 visa. but turns out that were facing a lot of challenges so im wondering if anyone on here has already successfully gone through that or is in the same situation?

the main problem is that his parents arent supportive at all, so we cant count on their help.

any advice on how to do it best?

why do you need parental support? if he is of age then that is not needed...

YMMV

Technically you don't need their support. However, life can be a lot easier and more pleasant if you have it. Have you gotten to know them? If you haven't visited it might be a good idea. I would have had reservations about my son's marriage if I had not spent 3 1/2 weeks with my DIL to be. We love her dearly and I went to bat for them to help them get her visa. Tell your fiance thanks for serving.

yeah thats the point, that its easier to have someone there to help me with the birth certificate and all kinds of paperworks. i have a certified pocket sized birth certificate but i read here that we need a long version. i tried to order it online but they wont ship to APO (his address in iraq) and of course neither to germany.

we need additional info like his parents birth dates and cities but he doesnt know them and he cant reach them via phone right now (how sad is that, i know).

yeah, i spent christmas at his dads house and on the outside, hes smiling at me and stuff but hes talking trash behind my back about me being german. believe me, i gave my very best to show all my respect but guess it wasnt good enough.

his mom has 5 kiddos and is like the sweetest person ever but a total messie. i dont wanna trust her with important stuff because im sure it would get lost.

.......

of course, were both of age, were both 22.

I am assuming that he is in the army. He can go to JAG and they will help out. JAG officers in overseas commands do visas regularly. And again assuming he is in the army, he doesn't need parental approval for anything. My advice is wait until the deployment is over. Iraq is a whole other planet and things may get messed up, lost etc.

don't worry about the German stuff from his parents. I was stationed in Mainz '87-'89 and thought Germany was a wonderful country with cool people.

HI! I'm in your same situation! I'm trying to get all the paper ready to go while my bf is in Iraq! Can I ask what website u used to get the birth cerificate? We got his from https://www.officialtraveldocuments.com/Index.aspx I don't know if they ship to APO addresses or Germany but you can give it a try...We are having an hard time with the paperwork as well and figured out the best option it will be for him to ship me all the paperworks here in Italy and I will ship them to California Center by UPS or FEDEX.

We fortunately have his sister that seems like avaible to help us but I know how hard it is to trust somebody else on this!We asked her to make the money order for our petitions cuz he's not able to do it in Iraq...we'll see if she'll help us out! Anyways...does he have a really good friend he can trust back in the States??? He could ask him for some help! They usually help each other! About his parent b-day dates...can u e-mail them?Uff, I know u're getting crazy about it but try to stay calm and think about a way to get in otuvh with them...u'll work it out!!

yes, my fiance is army. i was told that he could get service from jag, but that is only partly true because we would have to be married then, like DCF or K3. so thats not an option then. waiting until after iraq would mean about 6 months more separation and we wanna avoid that by any means.

thanks, germany is a beautiful country indeed ;) and im really proud to be german, but not all ppl are open towards germany because of its past (wwII). well, theres nothing i can do about it anyways.

Just wanted to wish you all the best of luck on your journey! Your fiance being Military, maybe you guys even qualify for the "expedite" once you have all the documents together. You should check on that!

Don't worry too much about the parents, his family or if people appreciate Germans ... you can't please everybody. And at the end of the day, why should you?

Alles Gute!!! :):):)

Yes my bf is in the Army too...uff! He'll deployed for other 4 months as well! So it seems like they'll come home around the same time! YAY!!! I know how hard it is to go trought deployment...this is the second one since we got together, he already served 1 year in Afghanistan...Anyways, all I can think it's that is almost over !! =D

I say u guys should get all your paperwork together..even if it takes a month or 2 it's always better then wait other 4 motnhs....and then u should ask for a military expedite since he's deployed...we will try to get it even if we're not sure they'll give to us!!!

I'm so sorry the website didn't work!! How bad! I will look if there is an other one that can help u out and i'll let u know!

mnieto, dankeschön for the link :D. its so good to read about ppl that successfully managed that tricky situation (though i dont really know if they really made it in the end). guess i havent figured out how to use the search function here.

youre def right that we cant please anyone, i always thought i was a kinda nice girl and i brought them bierkrüge and jägermeister- guess that wasnt convincing enough.

giuly, unfortunately you got me wrong-were only 4 months into this deployment and its supposedly to be a 14 or 15 month tour, so we still have a long way to go.

does anyone have more information on the expedite?

Hey listen, if Bierkruege und Jaegermeister were not good enough to convince them, then they are not only blind but there's also nothing more you can do...

I'd suggest you type in "Military expedite" and similar into the search space underneath visajourney.com. It will give you tons of old threads were people have asked all kinds of questions regarding military expedite. Once you have found a couple who has gone through a similar situation, I'd PM them directly!
