My gosh, the American goverment certainly has done a number on on the US public. You really honestly believe that it's ok to treat people like trash until they can prove they aren't trash. Well, that is pathetic.

you'll find that the closest many who post on this thread ever came to combat was on a playstation.

That would apply to me, however that does not make them laughing hysterically as they did any less embarrassing and shameful.

combat has the ability to imbue one with a dark sense of humor.

There is no excuse for this type of behaviour. Yes, there is dark humour in war zones, everyone accepts that but there is a huge difference between that and laughing at the potentially tragic outcome of a civillian. That's when the war machine has cracked your troops and turned them into morons.

according to you. it could well be that the bridge being blown couldn't be stopped, that they had really no options other than to watch the potential train wreck occur.

the laughter and jokes quite easily could have been just a cover for having to watch the horror of someone being blown up - ask almaty for particulars about how people deal with things like that, especially when the situation is completely out of their hands to alter.

there is a great deal of macho attitude in the military, perhaps you expected them to break down sobbing instead of doing what they did. doing so - showing any moment of weakness - would have caused whoever did so a great loss of respect immediately among that group and any whoever did so would be the butt of many jokes for the duration of his/her time in the unit.

i don't expect you to understand any of it. you can't comprehend what it's like to be in combat. all you can do is find something to condemn those out there doing the best they can in a war zone to survive, perform the mission, and return home.

Thanks Charles, great point.

Not every soldier has the same mental makeup. I imagine some need a dark sense of humor just to keep from going insane.

Who knows what the situation out there was other than those who were there?

Why don't you go to Iraq and save all those radical bomb loving muslims and then report back to us and let us know if they listened to you anymore than they did the previous 3,000 plus USA soldiers that have died for that country of theirs! I have friends knee deep in sand and fighting and dealing with those people each and every day just trying to make it out alive, and then all these liberal tree hugging Barry Ovomit loving anti war doves sit home in their AC climate controlled rooms in the safety of it all here in the USA when our USA soldiers are fighting so people like can attack and judge them. Well it is about time someone said something, this anti USA stuff needs to stop now. We all owe everything to those men and women fighting for us in the USA army and far be it for you or me to sit and judge them until you have been it their position, God Bless America!

Missed you to boy, where you been? :star::devil:

I most certainly can, they were enemy combatants and they deserve no rights! Thank God for the USA, for without it this would be a very dark dark dark dim world!

Hey girl, where were you? We missed you :)

I can it is a war, and it is real and it is serious and it is a threat to us all, and they are so lucky to be treated this way at all by USA soldiers. For if it had been our soldiers laying there they would be dead, heads cut off and on a video playing on internet to recruit for Terror cells, that is how I can justify it.

Oh really zqt. You can justify this?

Yeah, I am so anti american blah blah blah.

For the slow I will recap.

I have never suggested that the soldiers should/could have done anything to prevent the fate of the female civillian.

I have never suggested that the soldiers should break down and cry.

I have not condemened or complained about the vast majority of US soldiers who despite these appalling conditions manage not to turn into loutish morons.

I have suggested that the US army upholds its ethical standards and that certain types of loutish behaviour are unacceptable and should be called out and condemend when they occurr.

I also have stated that I find it incredible that an ex member of the armed forces can sit here and suggest that this type of behaviour goes on all the time and is considered an acceptable outlet for pent up emotions and frustrations. That is appalling and I venture to suggest entirely un American.

Pretty much. What about our troops that were dragged through Mogadishu, that were humilitated and tortured and beaten to death by those animals? I know this a completely different place that I'm talking about now, but nonetheless, these would do the exact same to ours first chance they got. No I don't think what happened in Abu Graib is as disgusting as this was, these people fought each other to get a go off our guys. Including women.

Human rights AJ, the only thing I really will try to defend. Everything else is just bullshit. However, my grandparents fought in appalling conditions and they didn't think that hte deaths of innoccent civillians was funny. Nor was it as 'cut and dried' as some are trying to make out as to who was what. Death is tragic, that's all there is.

I don't find the Darwin award stuff funny

Monty Python though was and they had a lot of blood spouting out everywhere. Maybe I lost my sense of humour today. I'll see if I can find it.

Bah, humbug!
