Hi all,

I'm confused on where the DS-156/DS-156K/DS-157/DS-158/DS-230 forms come into the initial submission for the K1.

In the Example Forms section, the cover letter example doesn't specify that the package contains these forms. However they are all available for download (even though some have expired).

In the USCIS guide for the I-129F, they don't seem to mention these forms as part of the initial package either.

Thanks in advance for helping me to clarify what gets sent where!

Best

This flowchart is helpful if you haven't found it yet. http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...amp;page=k1flow

It's at the top of the page in the blue tabs under "Guides" The link is the K1 Flowchart

Here's the over simplified version:

Those DS forms come in around step 9. The I-129F is the first part where the US Citizen petitions and if they meet the requirements---free to marry, a USC, met in the last 2 years, etc. then the petition is approved by USCIS. Then it goes to the Embassy in the country of the foreign beneficiary. That's where the actual application for the visa takes place and the foreign beneficiary has those DS forms to fill out. That will happen months after the I-129F is mailed in. When you are near approval of the I-129F (NOA2), then you should start looking ahead for the Embassy part to get all those things gathered.

For a K-1 visa your fiancee will complete TWO copies of form DS-156 and ONE copy of DS-156K for the interview, you DO NOT need them for the initial filing. For that you need only the form I-129F and the G-325 biographical data for BOTH of you. You will not need the DS-230 for a K-1 visa. You can go ahead and prepare the DS forms now if you want, DO NOT sign the DS-156K she will do that at the interview and you will be ahead of the game.

Actually I believe this varies by consulate. I DID have to fill in the DS-230 for the London embassy. However as Nich-Nick says this was not required for the initial petition and if it is required you'll be informed so by your consulate.
