My wife applied for a social security card name change 6 weeks ago form her maiden name to her married name. we have since received her green card. Social security gave us a letter stating that " all the documents must be verified because her married name hasn't been changed in the computer" and that we would receive a letter or a new social security card within 4 weeks regarding the status of her application. its now been 6 weeks and i called social security and visited them and they say the documentation verification is "still pending" and to "call back"but we are stuck because social security hasn't or wont process the name change application. what can i do? where is the information getting stuck?she cant drive or even get an id without this name change. whom are they verifying the documents through? is there anything i can do or call? has any one else gone through this?

I would go again in person and raise hell until they give you an acceptable answer. I changed my name at the end of last year and it only took about a week to get my new card. We did have an issue with them when it came to my husband's SS# and card, they kept giving us the run around and then I just went off on some lady's voice mail. Went the next day in person and the number miraculously was ready for us.

If she applied using an EAD card, which I assume has her married name, but SSA cannot verify that due the system still showing her maiden name. I would go back into the SSA office and show them the I-551 card, which I assume has her married name and have them do another initial verification request. Hopefully, that will verify her permanent resident status with her married name. If it doesn't keep your fingers crossed that the secondary electronic verification request works.

Make sure they do the secondary verification request right away, if the initial fails. The response from those come back normally within a week.
