Ok, so I know I've been asking a ton of questions lately, but I have another one. I so appreciate everyones congrats and assistance by the way. I love the Canadian forum!

I have my K3 in my passport now and I know I have to activate it at the border. However, I am not going to be able to move to Missouri with Zach until I have my EAD. He is in school and I have some debt so we would not be able to afford the move and then two months of neither of us working. So when I activate my K3 and send away for my EAD can someone explain to me how the biometrics works? Do they send you an appointment date when they send back the NOA1? Or do you make your own appointment date? I was planning on going down for a visit and get my biometrics done and then coming back to Vancouver to wait until it arrives so I can move and work right away. I am going to have to be the suger momma for a while Thanks guys!

Basically, they will send you an NOA receipt for your EAD submission first. They will then send afterwards - and there is no way to predict the time frame but expect to receive it within a few days to a few weeks after the NOA - an appointment for biometrics. The biometrics are done at the Application Support Center (ASC) for your area or at the local USCIS office. The appointment letter will tell you where and when. Sometimes you get a few weeks prior notice but sometimes you get very little notice. They do provide you with the option to re-schedule but you need to have a good reason and provide them with dates you would be available. If you are able to return to the US on fairly short notice then it shouldn't be a problem. You will need to travel to the ASC servicing your area of Missouri, though, and it may be on short notice so you should be prepared for that expense. Your notice will be sent to your US address and you will need to bring the original biometrics letter with you to the appointment.

At the appointment they will request your identification (passport with K-3 activated will be fine) and you will fill out a basic information form. You will present the completed form at a service desk and they will give you a number. When your number is called you will have your fingerprints taken digitally and your photograph taken. For the EAD I believe they only do the thumb-print but I could be wrong. It is usually very quick and painless.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Just noticed your comment about moving to Missouri. Whereabouts? I'm in St. Louis. :)

The winters are awesome. Cool, rarely below 0 and little if any snow. The summers however are brutal, with temps often in the high 30's and HUMID. Very very gross. The cost of living here is very low. St. Louis is a lovely city. I'm happy here for now. When Gene retires, we're thinking of leaving here however. In about 8 years. Going North...just don't know how FAR north! Enjoy KC! I've never been there. If and when we do get there, I'll let you know and we could meet up for coffee.

Oh how could I forget the summers in Missouri....I used to have to play soccer in that heat!! Craziness, espcially when you're coming from Canada. But yes, KC is nice too, friendly midwestern mentality, low living costs (coming from Vancouver I'm looking forward to that again) winters aren't too cold. Oh yeah, and my husbands there! lol. Of course, you'll have to give a heads up if your ever heading to KC.
