Hello All,

My wife and I will be sending in her N-400 paperwork early September. We have both been married before.

In looking at the form the information required about her X - Husband is easy and not a problem.

My X- Wife has since re-married and has changed her name.... So.. . What name for her do I use on the form?

1. Her maiden name?

2. The name she used after her marriage to me?

3. The name she used after our divorce?

4 Her current name?

Thanks...

Can use a separate sheet of paper and list them all.

I assume your question refers to Part 8, Section G of the N-400?

If so, the text box label is Prior Spouse's Family Name (Last Name). That clearly asks for her Last Name on the day your wife signs the N-400. If the question were historical, it would say so.

Everyone else - please remember the K.I.S.S principle when reading USCIS forms. Read the language carefully and try not to over-interpret.

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

Would help to be a mind reader, the basis I used for filling out the N-400 was that we already filed the I-130, I-485, G-325A, and I-751. I do not know if they cross check all of these applications, but they have them, wife saw those at her interview, so the information provided should be consistent and correct.

Another way to do it is to type, first name, middle name, (maiden last name) Current last name.

When asked for your last name, you should provide your current legal last name.

When asked for names used previously, provide names used previously.

This isn't rocket science.

Admire your objectivity AJ, whereas mine is clouded emotionally to have this subject brought up again. Was bad enough for my wife and I to go through this initially, then to have to repeat it again for the N-400. That also required more copies of our divorces, 50 double sided printed pages for me and 14 of the same for her. As I like to make duplicate copies in case the USCIS loses this important bit of evidence, that meant copying 256 pages bringing back a lot of bad memories we are trying to forget.

Wife's IO made quite an issue about our divorce papers and did use the (maiden last name) current last name format, saved explaining.
