:) Hi everyone,

I am a US citizen who came over to Australia to be with my partner (now husband) who is Australian. Now we are starting the process of filing for an immigrant visa for him. I have so many questions and the UCIS websites are less than helpful!

Any feedback is so appreciated! :help:

1) I have the I-30 information ready to go and waiting to confirm with the consulate's packet before I send out....is there anything that is consistently missed? It looks to me that I only need to send the I-130, both G-325's and the supporting documents for those to get started. Is that correct?

2) I am concerned about the sponsorship paperwork. It kills me that they promote they (Government) want valid marriages...so I move over to Australia to make sure it is true...give up my job and residence and now it looks like I am going to get penalized for it!! My federal returns from last year show $70k will that suffice even though I currently don't hold a job or do I need to get a co-sponsor? We have about $35k in liquid assets between us as well. Any help on this one would be great!

3) Can we start the medical and police checks now even though we will be waiting for packet of information for the interview?

Thanks so much!

Jackie :)

Hi and welcome to VJ.......woohoo another aussie

I think you need to submit DS-230 pt I & II as well....thats according to the Australian DCF thread. Have you had a read of the pinned thread at the top of this DCF forum. You could also do an advanced search on posts by Karo112, Mellie & wolvendove as they have pretty detailed posts on DCF in Australia and they are fairly recent. Im not right up on DCF as I am doing CR-1. Yep silly me :P

You can do the police check now. Which state are you in? To my knowledge you have to wait until you have interview date in order to do the medical as you need the forms but someone will be able to confirm that either way.

Come and join us in the LAND DOWNUNDER thread which has lots of info in general relating to those in australia.

Thanks so much Lorelle! I was hoping that you would reply to my post. I have read all of your postings about your journey and it has helped easing my husband's fears...he thinks he will never get in to America!;0) I will join the thread you suggested! Again thanks so much!

hi Jackie--it sounds like youa re off to a great start!

About the I-864--your situation is unusual, but not fatal. Your past, +sufficient income will be helpful to show that you are capable of earning in that range in the future, but it is not a current paycheck. Do you have any work plans for when you get back to the US? Going back into the same field? Same job?

Your assets will be helpful, but they are not enough. If your family is with you on this, you may find it more simple to ask one of them to be your Joint Sponsor. They would complete an I-864 separate from yours, and they must be a USC or PR domiciled in the US.

Please be sure to check out the DCF Guide: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...custom&page=dcf and the pinned posts at the top of the DCF Forum. I think you'll find lots of help to get you going!

Best wishes!
