Tell me Toya…are you the only one that deserves to follow her heart, and find true love? I’m sorry for any part I played in this fiasco. I truly am sorry. Mya slings down the garment she is still holding in her hand back into Toya’s open suitcase. She picks up her designer bag, and storms out the front door. Toya keeps her back to Mya as tears cascade down her face. She continues to force items back into her bag. She is anxious to leave, but wants to give Mya enough of a head start. Toya glances around the bedroom, trying desperately to pack as many memories in her brain as she could. She picks up her cell phone, and calls her parents.

Toya: Hi Mo-Mommy. No, I’m fine. Look, I need to bum a ride to the airport with you guys if it’s okay. No…Mom. Please don’t ask questions. I just…I just…ummm. I just have to tie up some loose ends at home. Huh? The funeral? Oh no…God no. Mommy help me. How did I forget that quickly? What’s wrong with me? I just hurt my best friend for no good reason, except misery loves company. Mommy, it’s over for me and Fitz. He told me to go home because he didn’t want our marriage. Yeah. Uh-huh. I mean “Yes Ma’am.” No, I haven’t seen him since late last night. Mommy, he stopped taking my calls. I don’t know. Rasta went out looking for him. No…neither of them have called yet. But…but Mom, how do I keep those words from playing over and over in my head? Okay Mom. I love you too. Tell Dad I said hi and I love him. Bye.

Toya plops down on the sofa, and drops her head in her hands. If she thought that her tear ducts had stopped production, she had never been more wrong. Toya looked up as the front door opened on her and Fitz’s home. Her eyes were mere slits, and she had a hard time making out the dark figure against the bright sunlight streaming through the partly opened door.

Fitz: To-Toya? Baby, what happened? We found Mya stomping up the road crying. No. She is okay. She is in the car with Rasta, refusing to come back inside. What about you? How are you? Baby, I’m so so sorry. I never meant to hurt you. I was wrong, and I know it. Please talk to me Toya.

Toya: Fitz? Is that you? W-We had an a-argument. Is she okay, please let her be okay. I owe her an apology. I’m fine. Don’t worry about me. I’m as fine as I was when you walked out on me, and when you hung up on-on m-me. What is there to talk about? I’m doing what you asked. I’m leaving. I’m leaving as soon as the funeral is over.

Toya stands up, smoothes her damp palms over her linen trousers, and stares at Fitz until her eyes adjust to the change in lighting. She glances down at her ring finger, then back at Fitz, before wriggling her wedding band and engagement ring free of the confines of her heart finger.

Toya: I have no use for these anymore. Now, if you will excuse me. I have a relationship to save.

Toya pushes the rings into Fitz’s chest and attempts to walk past him and exit their home. Fitz’s body intuitively reacts to his wife’s soft touch, and he grabs her waist to stop her hasty exit. He spins her back to face him, and immediately captures her soft, tear swollen lips into his own parched mouth. Fitz kisses her like a man dying of thirst - that found one lone bottle of water. Toya sighs into his mouth before lowering her guard and her impetuous, ramshackled wall of defense. She moans with delight and regret, then pushes away from Fitz while shaking her head no.

Toya: No. Fitz…no. It won’t be that easy for us this time. I have to see Mya.

Toya glances at Fitz again, then walks out the front door. She begins looking for Mya and Tradee’s car. Her heart drops when she notices that the car is empty. Toya looks around the property to see if she can spot them. Then, she skips down the short flight of stairs on the verandah, and walks around the corner of the house. Tradee’s back is turned toward her, and between his spread eagle stance, Toya can make out Mya’s petite and toned calves. The couple is caught in a loving embrace looking out of the horizon and picturesque view. It is obvious that Rasta is comforting his lovely fiancée. For the first time, Toya feels a tinge of jealousy as she pondered why her marriage had so quickly taken a nosedive.

Toya: Rasta…Mya? I don’t mean to intrude. Mya can I speak to you for a minute?

Mya and Tradee turn to look at Toya’s descent toward them.

Mya: Save it Toya. I don’t want to here anything…except that you and Fitz have made up, and are more in love than ever. Go save your marriage. I love you, and we can talk later k.

Toya: *nodding and attempting to speak around the lump forming in her throat* O-Okay. I love you too. Both of you. Th-Thank you.

Tradee: *whispering in his fiancée’s ear* I’m so proud of you Ma. You handled that so well. I know you are hurting. Thank you for putting your hurt aside for the bigger picture…their marriage. I love you Mya.

Toya runs back up the embankment, and literally runs into Fitz’s open arms. He stops her in her tracks, and pulls her into a deep embrace. Fitz moves back, and graps Toya’s hand. He kneels down in front of her, and pulls her wedding ring out of his pocket. As he deposits them back in their rightful place, he makes new promises and vows of devotion. Fitz promises to never turn his back on her again, and promises that he will never hurt her again if she will take him back. Toya backs away from him slowly, and shakes her head no, before running toward the house again. Fitz rises from his kneeling position and looks after her. Suddenly, Toya turns back around and runs full force back into her husband’s startled embrace.

Fitz: Baby. I’m sorry. I’ll never stop telling you how sorry I am for hurting you. I don’t want to loose you Toya. I love you more than you will ever know. I’m so sorry. Please say you forgive me. I’ll spend the rest of my life making it up to you. I promise on everything I am.

Toya: Oh Fitz! I love you too. I’m so scared. Please don’t ever hurt me like that again. Please don’t push me away again, I can’t handle it. PROMISE me!

Fitz: I promise Mrs. Davidson, and if you will allow me, I can show you better than I can tell you. Can I make love to my wife Toya? Will you allow me to love you better the second time around?

Toya: Are you sure? I don’t want you to throw our lovemaking back in my face later.
