At the time, it would have been extremely difficult financially for me to move there if we had been denied. My family did not know my husband then, so it would have been a huge emotional burden as well. We hope in a few years to be able to work part of the year there and either buy an apartment or put an addition on his family's home. I would love to live there at least part of the year as long as we are able to learn a living wage.

I lived there almost a year total, and I always knew it was a possibility. There are nice things about the country but nice for vacationing. I would never want to live there unless I was filthy rich and able to pretend it was somewhere else. There is too much wrong with that country which would make it risky and dangerous for me to live there, although I would have done it if I had no choice, but probably been depressed the rest of my life. In the end, we would live together wherever, but we are more happy here.

Yes, yes and yes.

It's easy to say "Yes!" if you've only visited and vacationed there. Living and visiting/vacationing are two very different things. The idealistic vision we all have of living in another country is different from the reality...that's not to say it's good or bad, but you don't really understand that until you do it.

I lived in Jordan for a year, and Yes, if sofyan wasnt allowed here, I would live in Jordan, otherwise, No, I have an amazing job that allows me to pretty much do as I please, and I make great money, i am a very independant person, so life in jordan wouldnt be for me, and yes, I do know many women work in jordan, but, my husbands family probably would object to it, and it would complicate things..not to mention, its tooo damn hot

Yep. We're moving back after we're done here... 3-4 years is the plan, but sooner if things speed up. I don't know if I would like to live anywhere other than where I am going. Here in the US I've lived in a big city, in a tiny non-incorporated town, medium-sized towns and metroplexes, state parks, and all kinds of places. As strange as it is, I always managed small-town politics better. I'll do better in his village than I would in Irbed, but I'd probably do better in Amman than Irbed as well. Something about the middle frustrates me-- it's not as 24-hour as a city not as extensive, and at least in a village there is a more natural feel to go along with that complete lack of 24-hour-ness :) I know, it's weird that way with me. Plus, most of the things people miss/dislike aren't really on my radar as important. Living alone for a year in a state park, I occupied myself without any phone or anything... grew my plants and talked to the small-town people during the days I was working. Otherwise, I more or less was alone. So being isolated isn't an issue with me as long as I have certain key things-- which i will have there. I'm actually more worried about not being alone lol!

None of my posts have ever been helpful. Be forewarned.

Three months in Lebanon during the beginning of summer was good enough for me. It put out any fire that was burning in me to want to live the rest of my life there. If I were independently wealthy, and there was no political unrest, perhaps I would consider it, it is truely a beautiful country. But as for raising my child and perhaps future children there, no. The quote "It's a nice place to visit, but I sure wouldn't want to live there" comes to mind.

If, God forbid, we have a denial, we have a back-up plan, but it doesn't include living in Lebanon.

If he hadn't rec'd his visa by the time my son finished school in June, we had talked about me moving there. But thankfully he got it. We talk about going there part time in the future. I love the culture and enjoy the time I get to spend with his family.

Hey all!

This has been asked before but thought I re-ask with all the new people on here ... if you had to would you live with your SO in their home country? If the petition was denied or if life in the States was unbearable for either of you or any other reason?

I realise for some, due to responsiblities this is not an option ... but if you could would you?

I myself, went throu the visa process, got the visa but due to various issues did not use it. We live here now ... some days it is great, some bearable while others I am just  !

Not having visited my husband's home country I can't give a solid answer. Right now, I'd say No. My family is here and my work is here. Being an orchestral musician wouldn't be an option in Morocco. I wouldn't really want my (future) children growing up away from my family.

Ill answer this for my husband since he is the petitioner.... he said he wd never move to egypt ever n if i got denied we might move to dubai which i dont mind as a country!

Yes i think that would be our only option also if things didnt work out with him getting the visa. Dubia doesnt seem to be all that bad. Although it would take along time for him to be established there. I try to picture myself living in Pakistan. It just doesn't work for me. I don't have family back home backing me up. Say for instance, if i needed a ticket to come back and place to stay. That doesn't work for me. I would love to be with my husband for a year or two in Pakistan, no problem, if i had family behind me. It's not so scarry then. When you are all alone it's different story. I think it mostly depends on your circumstances.

In a second. Our 10 or less year plan is to actually move to the ME. ISA I will be rich then, but if not I can just sit on my farm and watch the olives grow!

we discussed it as well... but as many know the economy in Morocco is horrid...our back up plan is Spain where he currently is working and i totally wouldn't mind. So much so we've include that in our 5 ish year plan. But we will see insha'allah.... gotta get the man here first if he can't than viva Espana lol.

ME??? only if i had some money in my pocket the poor live tooo dang poor. We always want more for our children and exposure to new ways of life? Yes, begging for their next mean? No.

My line of work allows me to live anywhere. I am moving there after graduation unless some mirical occurs and he is released from the Egyptian Military sooner and he gets his visa in hand. Otherwise, I'll be livinig in Egypt this time next summer or on location in Africa for a documentary and back to Egypt until this visa process is all sorted out.
